Zouave surprise
« on: December 30, 2007, 11:57:55 AM »
I had my zouave listed in the classifieds. I didn't get anyone real interested. A friend had given me a handful of .570 round balls.I was going out to the club to do some recoil therapy. so I grabbed my zouave rifle thinking I'll try the RB's. I fired 3 rounds with 60 gr. pyrodex All though the group was 8" high and 4" left  the group was a cloverleaf with all three bullets over lapping about a third. now how to get the point of aim where I want? I have had the rear sight off once before ,the breech side of the rear  sight sets in a partial dovetail oneside under cut like a dovetail the other side(toward muzzle) was cut straight after some measurments I decided I could file that side to a dovetail and still  put the original sight back on if needed. so I dug around in my parts an found  a lyman folding rear sight!! a little careful filing and back to the club I go ;D It now is centered perfect and 2" high at 50 yards  I hit a 9" steel circle at 100 Yards  It is no longer up for sale

Yowsuh!
I had a Zouave and just started off with round ball. I was pleased with the accuracy. Never fired a Minie in that rifle.
I filed off my front sight and soldered on a piece of silver from a ring I had gotten in Mexico, to bring the poi down.
Smack bucky in the lungs with a .570 round ball and he will know you mean business!
Aim small don't miss.
