.72 calibar kodiak

Im thinking of maybe getting one for black bear hunting hear in wisconson, Iam pretty sure Iwill get a tag this  year it will be 8 years  any ways Idont mind spending the money as long as it will be accurate out  to about 75 yds Im sure Iwill be only shooting 20 to 40 yds during a bear hunt, I would like to keep at least a 4inch group at that yardage , Ihave heard of people getting this gun and returning it sometime up to 3 times because it shoots very poorly Ireally would appreiate hearing from someone if they have any info,Icould use my .54 caliber with a conical ,but their is just something about having a side by side big bore black powder that intrigues me,. thanks

I have been admiring them in Cabelas for some time.
I don't know how they shoot.
That is a real shame if they are inaccurate.

well if it's worth anything too ya I live in Minn. and we have 2 cabelas stores. 1 in owatanna and a new one in rogers. they have a place called the bargain cave,, it's returns with warranty. They each have the .72 cal pedrsoli kodiack double in their racks as returned, that should be a hint. It's short barreled and heavy!  I have friend with the same in .58 and it's more than enough for black bear.

 One would be better served, purchasing a single shot .54 and learning how to shoot it, than needing a second shot too replace the first mis-placed shot from a double. IMHO

Scott: These rifles can be immensely fun to shoot. I have had several in various calibers. Some guys give up on them because they don't understand how double rifles work, whether cartridge or muzzleloader. For double rifle theory, check out Graeme Wright's "Shooting the British Double Rifle." You can get it from Huntingtons.com. It explains the way velocity and projectile weight affect the barrels' convergence and divergence. When you get a Kodiak dialed in, there is simply no greater joy in traditional muzzleloading than spanking your target with a right, then a left, and it is even more fun with the big .72. You can never have (TOO) many ML's, so go for it if you have the green to spare.

That said! Your 54 even with the round ball will do a number on Mr. Bear.

 Saw one today,,in Owatonna ,,789.99--- .72 cal. Thay'll dicker a bit with ya,,maybe geit fer $750

Hi

My brother bought one about a month or two ago. 2 inch accuracy from the word go at
50 - 70 yards.
I am not up to date with his loads but I know it was with conicals.
  Oh and by the way, he has a hunt booked for this week to hunt 2 eland cows
with the .72.

If he is successful I will get some pictures and better detail on the loads used.
