T/C EZ tip extractor
« on: December 31, 2007, 04:40:56 AM »
Are the T/C EZ tip extractor any good and worth the price?

I am thinking about getting 1 for my 15" and 26" 209x50 encores barrels

Yes, they are worth the price.   With the Ez-Tip you no longer have to take the gun apart to remove the breech plug.

I took out the extractor. The primer after it is fired is easy to remove and it is already out. You can hit it with your finger and it would fall. I don't see a use for either and yes its a waste of money.

I took my extractor out and left it out years ago. Never had any trouble removing primers. Makes it a lot easier to remove the breechplug not having to take the gun apart

I don't know if they improved them since they were introduced, but I've read the early EZ tip extractor were not to durable. My advice to you take your extractor out and shoot it see if you have a problem . if not leave it out and invest the money in a pack of Shockwaves, or something that serves a useful purpose.

I broke the ez tip extractor that I had in and I shot it without it and found it was a waste.

First one I had broke on the first shot.  Then took the extractors on mine and my wifes out.  No extractor worked okay for hunting, but when target shooting I had enough blowback after a few shots that the primers were hard to get out so I tried the ez-tip extactor again and they worked fine this time.  My wifes is still working fine.  I sent my Encore down the road and switched to a Savage ML-II.

I take the extractor out for target practice in warmer temps. but for hunting in Nov.-Jan. I find the primer will stick and you need the extractor for fast 209 removal/reloading.

I second what 30-06man said. Haven't noticed a blowback problem without the extractor in place, maybe it's the vari-flame system with small rifle primers that are saving me.

I bought one then i decided that i did not need any extractor . They don't seem to move the primer much any way , and  its just as easy to just grab  the primers  with you fingers .

I bought two, one for each Encore M/L barrel that I own. Both broke at the tiny screw. I sent them back to T/C and they sent me new ones. Broke those. Sent them back to T/C and they replaced them again. Sold those on eBay and discovered I can live without an extractor, if need be.  ;)
