Results of Barnes 53gr TripleShock on Wild Hogs!
« on: January 01, 2008, 03:49:05 AM »
An earlier post was asking about using Barnes Bullets on Wild Game.  Last spring I worked up a load for my 22-250 that I could use on yotes and hopefully on wild hogs.  The final results was Barnes 53gr TripleShock solid copper bullet pushed along with 35gr of Hodgdons Varget.  On my annual spring trip to Texas I was able to take four hogs from 160 to 320 lbs., all were one shot kills and none went more than 20 yards.  Distances ranged from 50 to 180 yards.  All four were boars and I never worried about the gristle plate on their sides, all four were taken with lung shots and the Barnes turned their vitals to mush.  It's one great bullet!!!!  I'm now working up a load using Barnes TripleShock 180gr BT for a Moose trip next October.

Can't believe that I went and left the answer to your question out of my original post.  My rifle is a 22-250 and the distances were from 50 to 180 yards.  I also modified the original post!

Yes, and on a couple of the hogs the bullet passed through the shoulder blade bone.. no bullets were found.  On January 28th I leave for my brothers ranch in Texas for a quail hunt and we will also be hunting hogs. Then during the second week in March, a trip where we  will be hunting hogs only.  Will be using the same bullet and will let you know if it continues to perform.
