TN,

I have not tried, and T/C recommends not trying it either due to pressure concerns. To be honest with you, that is the whole reason why I bought my Encore, and then T/C puts out a warning against it. I'm thinking of selling my Encore rifle and buying an 300 WSM or 270 WSM shortly!

I wrote Tc about 270 WSM they said they had no plans on doing it.. I went with the Win 270WSM nice rifle, seems faster than standard 270. I've shot the 270 for 25 years great cal WSM BETTER> The 300 and 7mm Same balistics as standard but 270 can equal 270 Weatherby mag.. Nice and Accurate.. <:)

I see VVCG list the 270wsm, with the other wsm's & saum's. But I know, that some custom Encore barrel makers won't touch'em.On

I have a 300wsm encore barrel from one of the popular custom shops. They tries to talk me out of it when I bought it as they said that factory ammo would not shoot well. Well that was almost 1 year ago and I am still working on trying to get it to shoot. This problem seems to be common as I have found reports from many who say exactly the same thing. Not sure what or why but theyjust seem to have lots of problems.  by the way I have a custom 270wsm which shoots like a dream but it is a bolt action not an encore.

good luck

would someone answer this for me?...lets take the 300wsm for instance...
is there really more pressure with the short mag than with the regular mag?...seems really strange they make barrels for the reg and not the short...less powder---less recoil----no belt---would think it would be ideal...
I saw the 300 listing in barrels and thought eventially I would pick up a short for my Encore...unlike some others here, I will not sell my Encore just cuz I cant get one caliber...I have bolt actions, and single---TC---Ruger #1's, and for the joy of shooting and carring, I perfer the singles...
whew!.......just had to express myself here cuz the wife wont let me!..... hahahahahaha.......Rob

Hi Rob, The pressure problem comes with the larger case heads of the short mags. A larger head, means more thrust on the frame for a given pressure. The Encore is a rather small frame compared to, say a#1. Use the Encore for what it was designed, and no problems. Push it beyond, and it's no different than any other firearm. Personally I like the Encore's intercangability, compactness, and light weight, more than enough to offset it's limited short commings. :D On

I have a 24" bulberry stainless in in 300wsm. All the info i can find ( Even Winchester specs) always shows the chambered with a short throat. This puts all the bullets seated deep into the brass. This ups the pressure if you try to load up to max. Being a single shot  ( no magizine like the bolt guns ) you should be able to have it throated longer. That is what I did but have not had the time to work on loads.  When I first got the barrel it was throated 75 thousands shorter than the diagram at Clymer Reamers.

Just do what I did...I wanted a 300WSM but after reading and talking to every custom shop.I BAGGED IT and got me a 300 Win Mag 26" factory heavy barrel and cut it down to 16.5" It was the best move I have ever done.Factory 180gr Remington Core-locks are going 2720fps.My Brothers 300 mag rifle shooting the same factory load only gets 2990fps.That my friend is ONLY 270fps slower than the rifle.GO WITH THE .300 Win. Mag AND DON'T LOOK BACK.The 300WSM or any WSM as far as the short fat cases go I think they are worth CRAP.
