Model 15

A friend of mine picked up a blued Model 15 today. I don't know anything about Dan Wessons, but he had a choice of it or a Taurus Mod. 689 for the same price. Both with 6" barrels. The gun has a couple of small scratches on the left side just below the hammer, but other than that is in really good shape. I figure it as a Mod. 15 from descriptions found on the i'net earlier. He paid $219. plus 6% tax which sounded like a great deal. Am I right? It is super tight and the trigger is great in both SA and DA.

That's about the cheapest I've heard of; at least for the last 3 years.  Dan Wessons have become somewhat collectable and their prices have jumped.  Average condition mod 15's usually run $290-$350 depending on barrel length, barrel style and overall finish.  Did he get the barrel tool and gauge with it; if not he can get them from CZ.

I don't think he got the tool and gauge with it, but I'm not sure. Will let him know about their availability. Wish I could find a 4".

Did you call Dan Wesson? They still have barrels

I own a 357 with the 2, 4, 6 and 8 inch barrels.

Even if you don't use them, get them.

here's a pic of the model 15 I bought for $219...  sorry it isnt the greatest pic...  but its a camera phone.....

only have had it out once to shoot it - had a bunch of 10 to 20 year old reloads (from a friend at work who only shoots 44 mags now) as well as a box of hot fmj S&B's that greanjeans gave me......    all the reloads popped no problems (I really just wanted the empty brass :))   I had a smile from ear to ear

Technically you have a model 15-2 which is a product-improved version of the model 15.  The difference really only matters if you try to buy parts.  There are some differences between the model 15 and the model 15-2, one of which is the barrel/shroud design.

That looks like the 15-2 I foolishly gave up several years ago.  I paid about what you paid, only this was in the 1980's.  I shot many rounds through it, but when I needed parts Dan Wesson was temporarily out of business.  I sold it and they reopened with parts for the older models, as CZ does now, although they don't have all parts for all the older models.  The 15-2 was the last improvement and many parts are available from CZ , or many online dealers.
