Have any of you ever heard of this round?

Have any of you heard of this round? It is the 5 mm/35 SMc.   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5mm/35_SMc  I am just getting into reloading and it opens a lot of new doors for me. Like having a 204 Ruger rechambered to this caliber. I am somewhat of a speed demon. I love fast and flat and this sure fits the bill. If any of you know anything about this round please speak up. Thanks Dale

Here is a link to a google search of this round. It will take some time to go through it all though. It looks like the 204 Ruger could not be rechambered to it though. Dale         http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=5mm/35+SMc&spell=1

For more information go to www.superiorballistics.com.  The SMc cartridges were developed by a ballistics and handloading expert, and a rocket motor design engineer.  The idea was to develop a cartridge that maximized "efficiency"; that is, got the most velocity per grain of powder used.  They can explain it on their website better than I can.

The 5 X 35mm SMc is, I think, the only commercially available round.  Savage's custom shop can chamber a rifle for it and I think brass is available.  Pretty interesting stuff, in my opinion.  I hope they have success and are able to introduce additional cartridges.

I think Varmint Hunter Magazine had an article on it sometime in the last year.

My local gunshop has had a Savage LRPV chambered in it for several months.  20BR with a radius shoulder means custom dies and reamer along with necking down and fireforming brass.  I would practice handloading while shooting the barrel out on the .204 and then decide if you really want to spend the time/money on something like this.  There was a good discussion about it on the accurate reloading forums awhile back.

As far as I know the 20 BR is not the same round? Dale

No, not exactly,  the SMC has a radiused shoulder.  They are using 6BR brass to form their cases just like other BR wildcats(BRX, Dasher, etc.).
