Model 689

Anybody have one of these or know anything about them. LGS has one in 6" for a good price. Been looking for a 4" or 6" GP100, but would consider the 689. Any comments? Thanks.

I bought a model 689 earlier this year.  Mine is in stainless with a 4" barrel.  The 689 was Taurus' top of the line revolver until it was discontinued.  I'm not certain how long they were produced but I am led to believe that production ended sometime in the 90's.  The 689 is patterned after the Colt Python - if you look at the two side-by-side you will see many similarities.  Also, many accessories made for S&W K frame revolvers will also fit the Taurus.  I recently purchased a Hogue grip for mine - this was a definite upgrade.  The recoil of the gun is a bit more noticeable than my brother-in-law's Ruger but his has a 6" barrel.  I've been happy with the gun, I like the adjustable sights but I'm still in the process of dialing it in.  When I bought it there was a used GP100 in blue right next to it - the Taurus was in better condition and the action felt smoother to me.

If the price is right I would certainly consider buying it.

Thanks. Didn't get a chance to get back to the shop this week end, but am going to try on Monday. I want it for white tail hunting and since the season has just ended, I have some time to make up my mind. Shop is asking $219. plus tax which sounds like a good deal.

seems like a fair price.

Missed the 689. It was gone by the time I got back to the shop. They did have a Ruger GP100, 4" in Stainless which is what I had been looking for. Had to pay more money for it, but it was really what I wanted. Haven't got to shoot it yet, but hoping for the best.
