Lee Case Trimmer
« on: January 04, 2008, 12:35:23 AM »
I'm confused (or stupid)
Been reloading 223 for my Tikka with good results.  I use Blackhills brass and some range military crimp.  Bought the Lee case trimmer after reading all the good reports and low cost.  It works fine but recently after resizing in RCBS decap die the trimmer won't fit in the decapped case.   ???

What I can't understand is I did several hundred rounds, trimmed and reloaded without any problem.  Can't figure out what I'm doing different or wrong.

Is it possible the expander plug is worn? Is the brass stretching and closing down after expander is pulled thru? The die is set for partial resize - about half the neck. Once the neck is resized the trimmer won't fit it like it did previously.

As most know, the old primer has to be removed for the trimmer to be used.  I just ordered a universal decap die - figure I will decap, trim - neck not resized so trimmer will fit in case, then resize, prime etc.

Hoping somebody can clear up this mystery.....

Brass loves to stretch back to a smaller size and also get hard and start to split necks..
If I was to guess I would say your brass, it comes back out of the die harder,
or over the expander ball harder if you will.inturn it stretches back
down a little after you get it past the expander ball.
if this is the case you will need to turn your necks down and you may have to
anneal your case necks.
