Hello everyone,
Please excuse me if I don't call everything by it's correct name, but my 209x50 encore has recently had a mishap.  I was my fault because I freely lent it to my bonehead cousin, but that's beside the point.  I have a regular stainless encore and when I got my 209x50 barrel off ebay (about a year or so ago) I noticed that there was a loose part under the barrel where the ram rod is held into place.  There are two cylinder type pieces that the rod goes through under the barrel to be held into position.  I don't know what they're called but the front one was always loose and my cousin managed to finish it off even though he was warned about it and told to be carefull.
I'd really like to reattach it to where it belongs, but the threads are stripped and from what I've heard of JB Weld it might do the trick.  I've never used it before so I'm just going off of what I've heard.  Anyone have an idea of how I should go about this little fix?  I don't care too much if it looks pretty, I just want it to be able to work.

It will but it will dry a dark gray. I have used everything to hold them on from superglue to duct tape wrapped around the barrel and it. You could have it drilled and tapped again. Is the threads stripped in the barrel or the screw? Have you contacted T/c they might be nice and fix it.

Just curious, but how well did the super glue hold up?

T/C "s have 2 ramrod holders if one came off just use the other one you don't need 2 of them on the barrel. Knight only uses one.

Its still on there but I don't use the barrel so it hasn't been put through its paces.

They are called thimbles...I would have a qualified gunsmith reattach and send the bill to your boneheaded cousin...

They can be drilled and tapped to the next larger size, or maybe even drilled out smaller than the threads and cleaned up...
This is a small job, no big deal...As soon as you try to jerry rig something, it will break in the middle of next season, go ahead
and have it fixed right the first time....

I agree with flintlock. That what I would have done if I didn't rig it up.

I've used a lot of JB Weld and yes I figure it should hold up just fine in that application. It's neither high stress nor high temperature and JB is made to use in welding up engine blocks it's tough stuff. So long as there is some semblance of threads left on both pieces that should get the JB plenty to hold onto. Just clean it all up real good with a degreaser to make sure there is no oils or anything to prevent it from holding properly and it should work fine.

I once put a scope base on with it that I had no plans to ever remove just in case the screws weren't enough. I did much later decide I wanted it off. Man what a job it was to remove it once the screws were out. I have full confidence it would have never come off even without the screws. It took both heat and a hammer to remove it.

Heck if its that good then yes I would use it because it would be cheaper than fixing it the "right' way.

You might try and fill the screw holes with JB Weld and then retap the threads.  It will certainly hold if it is clean before application.  Use some starting fluid or ether to clean out the threads.  Let it dry thoroughly and retap.  If you don't have the correct tap for the threads, you can use screws themselves by application of 2 coats of clear finger nail polish on the threads and the screw head.  Then apply the JB Weld to the stripped out screw holes, loosely insert the screw but do not bottom out, wipe off the excess, and let JB Weld dry.  Using a good screwdriver you can back the screws out.  The JB Weld adheres to the fingernail polish instead of the metal to metal contact.  After it is done, you shouldn't even see the thread repair.  Keep the holes in an upright vertical position as JB Weld will try to run.

Currently, the screw is gone forever, but getting another one wouldn't be all that difficult.  When I was thinking of using the JB weld I was thinking of using it along the length of the thimble to the barrel.  There is a nice flat side on the thimble where it touches the barrel and I was thinking of putting the JB weld along the contacting surfaces and seeing how it holds up.  I've never used the stuff but if GB had to use heat and a hammer to get it to break free surely it'd be a permanent fix for something only meant to hold a rod.

You have several options
you can have a local gunsmith retap and install a new screw for little money
Or
you can have the barrel cut back to 21" and have a real handy carbine

it will look just like the factory barrel but shorter. you will loose the front sight and about 5" of barrel but little to no velocity  and you will have a very handy barrel

OTT can cut it back and put an 11 degree crown for about $60, or any local gunsmith should be able to do this work for around the same price.

I like that one but if you can't fork out that type of money now like me you can use the JB weld.

Well I used JB Weld on it last night.  It was my first time ever using the stuff and I haven't gotten a chance to see how well it cured yet.  I hope I mixed it, and applied it right.  I'll check it out tonight and I'll let everyone know how it went.

If you mixed it right and got all metal clean, I think you will find it will do the job.  Just try and not let it run.  I interested in how it turned out.  Keep us posted.

I guess this may be a little late, but with T/C's lifetime warranty they would have fixed that for you with no charge other than you shipping costs.  I think the JB's will probably do the trick but if it doesn't you may want to give TC a call.  They have pretty good customer service.
