.22 Mag Ultra Varmit ?
« on: January 05, 2008, 02:15:31 AM »
I saw a N.I.B. .22 mag Ultra Varmint at a gun show last night. It had checkered laminate stocks, a real nice looking gun. I checked the 2008 catalog and do not see the .22 mag offered this way. The serial number prefix was NW. Did they stop offering the gun set up this way or can you order one with the laminated checkered  stocks already on it? Oh ya, the price was 145.00    James

It looks like that's another one they discontinued, along with the Versa Pack and Sidekick. TGS has the Ultra in stock, $145 is a good price for a new one, that's about what Walmart sells it for.

Thanks Tim. That's what I was afraid of, if I make it back to the gun show, it will have a good home.   James

I have one also and it could not be better, a quality piece. I suggest you do get it....<><....:)

There's confusion whether the 22mag Ultra has been discontinued, it's still on the H&R website, but not in the 2008 catalog, I'll have find out what's up. :-\

Please do, and report back.
I was thinking or ordering one (along with a .223) in the coming weeks.

The 22mag bull barrel is still on the accessory barrel list as is the 38-55 which was discontinued as a rifle according to both sources. But the 22mag Ultra isn't listed at SSI, so that's not encouraging, but RSR does, but they also list the 38-55, but no Versa-pack. :-\

Unfortunately the 22mag Ultra has been discontinued, apparently the error is on the website, it shouldn't be there. TGS still shows it in stock, so anyone wanting one better grab one while you can.

Sorry,

Tim,
While checking out what's new for 2008 did you notice if they were going to offer the Handi in 338 Federal?
If not any plans to?

No 338 barrels this year, but we're hoping that since the 338 Win Mag was considered but cancelled  this year, maybe they'll offer both it and the 338 Federal next year, the thought being Marlin isn't tooled up for a .338" bore yet, they're already making .284" and .308" bores, but if they tool up for the Win Mag, no reason not to do the Federal too, mostly wishful thinking, but we can always hope. ;D

Thanks, for the information.
Was hoping they did and would be able to kill two things on my wish list at the same time.
I want a center fire Handi.  Not sure what caliber yet.  Maybe 30-06 as I have a bunch of 180 grain Nosler partition ammo laying around and it's not right to shoot it out of my Garand.
