Eskimo- how did you go about mounting your rail and scope?  This is the exact set up I want.

I used a TC contender scope mount with a swift 2x scope. The two middle holes on the base match up with the rear sight holes.   I figure if my 500 can keep a scope on with 3 screws while launching bricks at painful velocities, this 357 will not be a problem with just 2 screws.  I might eventually drill and tap one or two more holes but for now this is it.

After some more thought on the scout mount, I think you've persuaded me to go that route instead of open sights or peep sight on my 357 or 44, depends on how I adjust to that sort of mount, if it works well, I may do both of em that way!! Trotterlg came up with the idea originally on his 22mag, then Slufoot applied it to his 45-70, link below is in the FAQs. ;)

thx,

Tim

I also have one on the 44 mag barrel I got from Digger with a red dot.  This arrangement makes carrying the rifle in your hand much better.

Eskimo36,
Looks pretty good my friend. Hope it shoots as good as it looks. I like the idea of the forward "Scout" style on the scope. I think it might do well with a red dot style also.

eskimo, great minds think alike.  I will be sending my receiver in this month for a .357 barrel.  I will be reaming it to maxi.  I, too, like Swift optics.  Although I was going to go with the 4x.  I'm thinking this will be a great little rifle for my sons to learn how to shoot centerfire.  Heck, I might need to buy one (or two) more so we can all have one.  Have you shot yours yet?  I will be looking forward to hearing all about it.  Thanks for sharing.

I have not shot it yet but maybe today.  It is supposed to be 73 here in the heart of SE Oklahoma.  I need to scrub the barrel and dig out some ammo.  4x in a pistol scope has a very small field of view.  I considered one but side by side I went with the 2x.

Hey Eskimo 36, I too live in S. E. Oklahoma, but don't post on the Forums.  Thought since we live close together, we might get acquainted.  I do a lot of gunsmithing, and work on many H& R's.  E-mail me if you would like.  Thanks, tramrd

Shot the 357 this afternoon standing from 3 long sticks tied together (Africa Style). i rested the frame in the top and shot it at 50 yards after bore sighting it.  I was shooting 357 125 grain HPs that I had left over from something.  They shot about 2 inches at 50 yards which with all things considered is plenty good for me.  From a bench with a bigger scope and a tailored handload this gun will probably shoot great.    But for the rest of the winter it has just become "my betweener" calling rifle for those times when the 12 ga with buckshot is not quite enough and the 700 17 Rem with 10x 3200 is too much.

Hey eskimo36, Your rifle looks great and sounds like it's going to be a real shooter.
I feel like the Handi is a natural for this type of sighting system. It maintains it's great carrying quality of just wrapping your hand around the receiver. It also takes away the need for a hammer extension and the need for hammer clearance of a rear mounted scope.

GOOD SHOOTING!
Slufoot

Very nice looking.  I may have to rethink what I am going to do for a scope mount.

Looks great.

Is that a Boyd's stock?
Are they still making 'em--my computer illiteracy hasn't allowed me to find 'em listed on their site.

I am not sure of the original source of the stock set.  It has changed hands a couple of times since it was produced.
