CZ 40P in .40 S&W
« on: January 05, 2008, 02:45:27 PM »
I just purchased a CZ 40P - compact version of the CZ75B but with an alloy frame and chambered in .40 S&W.  The gun is finished in what looks like powder coat.  The gun has fixed sights and a rail for flashlight or laser on the underside of the frame.  The trigger guard has a great shape - perfect for stabilizing it with my non-shooting hand. This is a SA/DA pistol with de-cocker instead of a true safety; the pistol is equipped with a firing pin block.

I love the ergonomics - that's why I bought it.  I will say that I was a bit apprehensive when I headed out to the range and my expectations were pretty low.  I'm not a hand-gunner, I've always stuck to rifles and this is my 2nd handgun to own - I bought my first about 6 months ago.

Well, my first 10 rounds made a believer out of me - I went through the rest of the box in quick order.  I was shooting rifle paper at 15 yards - my first 10 rounds were all on the paper (this is an amazing feat for me since I can't hit the broad side of a barn with a handgun).  The more rounds I shot, the better I got.  I was rewarded with nice 5" groups by allowing 1 second between rounds fired (allowing the gun to settle back after recoil).  Keep in mind that this is a compact "carry" pistol.

I am really happy with the gun - it appears to have good quality, no miss-feeds, feels great and its accuracy is beyond my capabilities.  I bought the gun at Cabellas while my brother-in-law was picking up a rifle.  I'm planning to put another 50 rounds through it tomorrow - I'll be sure to update the post with the outcome.

Happy and safe shooting!!

Shooting a pistol is the same fundamentals, sight alignment, focus on the front sight tip, and a slow steady trigger squeeze. Good luck and welcome to the best addiction

I just purchased a CZ 40P and I really like mine.  It has a great feel to it and it handles great. I shot 200 round today and was very pleased.  First pistol that i have had with a Decocker. I think I am going to like this feature for hunting.  Trigger is very smooth.

I had a CZ-40P and loved it.  Great ergonomics and an accurate shooter.  Wanted another gun, but didn't have the money, so I traded it.  I do plan to buy another when I can afford it.

A good web site for CZ pistols is the CZForum.com at http://czechpistols82792.yuku.com/

You'll find a link for the CZ-40P bulletin boards which has some good info.  You might be surprised about the origin of the 40P.

Finally had some fair weather and a chance to put some more rounds through the CZ 40.  This time I invited my brother-in-law to bring some firearms for comparison - he brought along 2 Browning Hi-Powers chambered in 9mm (one with fixed sights and the other with target sights) and another Browning HP in .40 S&W.  While I like the Browning HPs a lot, the CZ has better ergonomics.  We used the same Winchester ammunition in 9mm and .40 S&W for each gun.  While each of the guns operated flawlessly, the CZ shot the most consistent groups.  Even my boys, who have limited hand gun experience, had tighter groups with the CZ.  My youngest son commented that the .40 CZ didn't seem to have any more felt recoil than the 9mm HP.

While I'll certainly purchase more handguns, I can honestly say that this compact pistol may very well be my favorite.  The more I shoot it, the better it functions and the greater the accuracy.  It is an absolute shooter!
