Florida Fishing trip
« on: January 06, 2008, 11:44:01 AM »
Well this summer I have booked a trip to go fishing for a week to FLA. I am going to Lake Okeechobee and I wondering If I can pick up fishing tips for that lake. I don't know much about that lake and I am going to rent a Boat at Rolland Martins Marnia and any info or tips for Florida fishing would be great. I hardly leave SC for fishing but I here you need shiners for good fishing in FLA but I am also wondering if Night Crawlers would work good?

From talking to people that have been there shiner 4-6 inches free swiming under ballons
is the ticket, haven't heard anything about night crawlers.
Ole Roland should know how and where, bet if you called ahead he would have some tied to bushes just waiting for you ::)

Big shiners are the key. The trick is to get them close to the grass mats and you need to have some heavy tackle to get them out. The Lake is full of shiners and as the saying goes, match the hatch.

Thanks. I plan on trying the night crawlers though just because I have always had good luck with them.

3006,

How do you plan on fishing the crawlers? I have used them for years and think they are the best.

Depends on where I am at. Down there I plan on trying a few things but here I normally just cast out and let them sit and they always have gotton the job done but at my pond I normally will cast out and reel in slow and I catch quite a few bass that way. I have never really liked the plastic baits but I might try some of the Gulp plastic nightcrawlers also.

I use a  "crawler harness" with a split shot and cast it at weed edges, very effective.

Ill have to give that one a try. I know I hate getting into Brim Beds with them. Lake O is very shallow and I hear it has a bunch of trees and grass in it so I expect it to be about like fishing here.
Thanks

My very favorite bass fishing method is casting a home made 3/4 oz "safety pin" spinner bait at structure with a 7 foot medium heavy St Croix casting rod. It is the most fun.

I have always liked using Eagle Claw No4 hooks and a whole nightcrawler. I use a Shimano and Abu Garcia reels and Shakespear Ugly Stick rods unless I am using a Ultra Light.
