Storing & Showing your barrels what's your display
« on: January 06, 2008, 12:16:52 PM »
I would like to store them in maybe a show /display box, with but not Necessarily the frame
I would like for this holder to secure the barrels while its being shown but not for it too be so big and bulky that it would take up much space in my cabinet
What I'm looking for is your idea of your own Home made things
I can not afford buying I also feel better making
I own 4 barrels between 10 and 16 inch, each one is scoped

MY insurance policy forbids "public display" of weapons. This creates a public nuisance thing . It's like leaving a camera on the seat of your car. It gets stolen after breaking the window. You should NOT have left it in plain view!!

I keep them locked up in my 2 Fire Proof Safes. Use to be a time when I had a gun cabinet and could view the guns I had at hand. But raising children i saw the need for a safe to keep curious hands off, not so much my kids but others. You read so much where parents leave loaded guns around and a child gets a  hold of it and kills another. If i want to view my guns I open the safe to either admire them or to show them off, then lock it up. I feel secure in leaving my home as the average Burglar is not equiped to break into a safe. Lou

I received a beautifully made presentation case, along with a 10" Contender in .223 upon leaving an Army Guard unit I had been a member of for a number of years.  A simpler version, for scoped barrels only could easily be made by anyone with basic woodworking/craft skills.  Make a simple, framed box 3-4" deep.  Cut a piece of rigid foam insulation to fit snugly inside the framed box.  It should be a snug fit, but not so tight you won't be able to push a layer of fabric in between it and the sides of the box later on.  Position the barrels as desired and trace their outlines on the foam.  Cut out the traced outlines with a sharp razor knife.  Get a piece of velvet or felt material from the Wally World fabric department or local sewing goods place. Red looks nice.  Place the piece of fabric over the foam with plenty of overlap.  Press the barrels into their respective positions and stretch the fabric, smoothing out any creases.  When it looks right, trim the fabric so there is an inch or so of excess and tuck this excess down in between the sides of the box and the foam insert - a thin bladed putty knife works well but a butter knife might as well.
I appreciate those who refrain from inserting their partisan political beliefs here.

Tom,
I made some holders for my barrels and frames . They are in my vault. I will send you a photo of them if you want. It is easy to build if you have access to a table saw.
Or you can get some of the On Target Technology  things that do an excellent job of holding the barrels and I do think he has a holder for the frame as well.
