Beeman pellet gun two barrels springer 140.00 Thoughts
« on: January 07, 2008, 04:46:34 AM »
Was at a ;local outdoor store and spotted this pellet gun liked the looks, liked the 177 and 22 cal barrel both included, liked the fact it came with a scope, like the 140 price.  So any experience with these?  Accuracy, what can one expect?  Is beeman any good, it did say henco in the China that bothered me but I don't figure I would spend the money for a us or german gun  so guess I will have to get over that.  Would beeman be better than the Gamo, crossman, daisy line up so typically seen at the big stores?  I was thinking something my son and I could play with in the back yard, we live 8 miles out of town so noise is no issue and use it for pest control.  Maybe save the 40 bucks wasted on the 760 crossman and go nicer right off the bat and let him grow into it.  Thanks for any help.  SN

Did you ever get that rifle?  If so, do you have a quick review for us?  I am very interested in hearing of anyone's experience with this combo.

I just ordered such a combo from Sportsman's Guide and am anxiously awaiting its arrival (Friday, it looks like).  I figured that a nice .22 pellet gun might cover my short range squirrel hunting when the season rolls back in (with less noise so that I don't spook the deer I am scouting at the same time) while the .177 will let me get more trigger time in the backyard.

Which model Beeman is it? They have about a half dozen different guns that can change barrels. I found one at our local WalMart for $125. It's made in China. The low end Beeman guns are all Chinese made now.
I thought about getting one (really would like a .22 springer), but I think I'll skip it. Been having too much fun modding 760's for backyard shooting fun.

So  sorry for the real slow response.   The thread did not take off and I git busy...   I read and looked but got scared after reading some post online on that model.    Figured if I am going to drop 140 bucks on a pellet rifle I wanted to do plenty of research so I did not buy a turd that I was unhappy with.   On the upswing if anyone is has a Acadamey store near them they offered to let me take it out and try it with mony back if dissatisfied.  Thought that was way generous.  Still shopping.  SN

Well, I am a little late responding - but did want to say that the Beeman combo got here a few weeks back from Sportsman's Guide.  I haven't had much time to play with it but here is what I can tell you:

  • The SG special comes in a little black cordura case that uses velcro flaps and elastic straps to hold all of the parts in place (it is a pretty decent package)
  • The package comes with the receiver/stock, a little 'Beeman' 4x scope (that I haven't tried yet) and rings, both a .177 barrel and a .22 barrel, and tools/extra bolt screw
  • I have only gone so far as to try the .22 barrel in the backyard.  All I had to do (after wiping off the excess preservative and cleaning the barrel) was unscrew the barrel retaining screw, slide the barrel in, and tighten the screw.  That was it.

I then took the rifle into the backyard for a few shots and these are my comments:
  • The Fiberoptic sights are nice but plastic.  The front is a simple red bead and I found that at ~10 yards, it almost exactly covered the white bullseye that I was shooting at (which I liked).  The adjustments don't feel very positive/secure, but the finger dials beat the heck out of the 'loosen-then slide to the side-then retighten' windage adjustment on my Mendoza.
  • The wood stock looks nice and fit me pretty well.
  • The receiver already has a scope stop affixed to the rail.
  • I do wish that this model had something more substantial to grab for cocking other than the barrel itself.  The more expensive Beeman models do have that feature - but for the price paid, I'll manage. ;)
  • After about 10 shots, I found myself needing to retighten the barrel screw.  I guess the recoil just shook it loose.  I may use some clear fingernail polish on it before hunting season (after I have shot the .177 over the summer).
  • The little safety in the front of the PLASTIC triggerguard seems positive and fairly easy to push off.
  • The trigger is indeed HEAVY  -  :o.  It makes stock Savage non-accutrigger .22s and Rossi singleshots appear to be 'hair triggers'.  ;)   It really isn't conducive to good shooting, so I need to look into getting that lightened.
  • The rifle appears to want to shoot, but the nut behind the trigger is a little sloppy - on his shooting skills  :D.  I had heard that Springers required a different style of hold and I need to work on that.  At 10 yards off of my Caldwell front bag, I would put 2 of 3 almost on top of each other but then the other one would be an inch away.  Some of that may be the gun settling in, but I am also betting that the heavy trigger pull and my follow-through are almost just as much to blame.  Of course, I also only tried 2 types of pellets, so I need to get a few more.

So, all in all, I am currently pleased with my Beeman combo.  As I get pics and shoot more targets, I'll post them here.

PS:  This is what I bought.  http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=394652

I have one.Its the 1073 model. Here is my thoughts on it.
1Very rough.
Stock didn't fit like my Gamo.,and harder to cock.
All i had in 22CAL.pellets were Daisey's wad-cutters.I had to push them in with a pen to keep them from cutting off the end of the skirt when i closed the barrel. When cocking the gun you have to really pull down HARD too engage the sear?.I'm going to take it all apart to see if i can fix the horrible cocking cycle of this gun.   That was the bad stuff.

The rifle has a very good trigger, compared to my Gamo. The gamo is real bad.
I put the 17 barrel on and it shot the same as my Gamo with the same pellets, around 775fps.The gold type shoot 890.
The 22 cal barrel only shot 535fps.average 5 shot strings on both, barrels and guns.Ill get some more pellets for the 22 and see if i can do better. All i did was clean the barrels of the gun and did the test.I too have found that the barrels locking screw came loose after a few shots. The Bee man people recommend to put on some blue Lockite on the threads, for a fix.
I'm a little disappointed in the 22 velocity's but its brand new. Also the pellets WTS.were off on the pellets [From16GRS.to12GRS.]We shall see how it does with different pellets, just as soon as i can get some. They advertised the COMBO to shoot 1000fps-and 800fps respectively pan.

Wonderful.  So far, it sounds like I may yet pass on considering this rifle.  Thinking TF-59, IF, I can invest in another break-barrel.

Sorry it took so long to get back to y'all.Well i found out why the 22 barell shot so slow.It was too cold!!.The lube in the gun had gotten sluggish, and slowed down the pellet. It does shoot a little faster than what i stated earlier, around 775fps.Its not all that good in the Accra dept, but,i may have not found the right pellet for it yet.About 11/2 at 20 yds is about the best i could do.
With more shooting i think i can get better performance out of her.I'm going to take it apart again and see if a good cleaning and lube in the piston will do any good.Does anyone recommend any good lube for the piston tube?.Thanks,pan.
