benifits of g2 over old style frame
« on: January 07, 2008, 07:54:47 AM »
Hello all,

I already have a G2 in a rifle set up and love it, however I have always wanted a stainless pistol version in 22mag, 223 and 7/30 I had planned on getting an older frame and the pacmyer grip and forend.  I thought the flatside would make it lighter and such.  my question is would it be better just to get another g2 in stainless rather that buy a used flatside?  Also how would I verify that it was a pistol frame?  and yes I thought about a encore also but they seam much larger!

thanks
Carl

Well one thing with the G-2, don't have to break it too cock it. I had a problem with a Contender, and TC replaced it with a G-2 in pistol format. I really feel this may be that they are going to phase out the contender ( My Opinon ) I may be wrong. Another thing I think the G-2 is a little heavily constructed.  I like the Encore for it versatility, buy one in pistol formatt and you will be able to use it as a rifle also with the proper barrel and stock. The Encore will handle any caliber from TC. to find out how it left the factory call Tc with the serial number and they will give you the way it left the factory (Pistol or Rifle) Lou

The Original Contender is long out of production.

I've owned all three and just got rid of my last original Contender frame. I much prefer the G2 as a pistol. In the winter the old Contender's trigger was just too light for woods walkin IMO. I just didn't feel safe with a 1-1/2 pound trigger and numb, gloved fingers.
I don't think you'll notice an ounce or two of extra weight.

FWIW, my .22 WMR G2 is my best offhand shooter I've ever owned. I don't do a lot of missin' with that combo!

Your FFL will verify what he is selling you (pistol or carbine). If it's a private sale, maybe call T/C.

I have both and from the factory the older model has a better trigger with less creep but I like the G2 for it's smooth opening feature.

I prefer the looks of the older frame I have  2 stainless, 3 blued, all with good triggers. In the G2 I have 1 blued and 2 stainless. The G2 is suppose to be stronger. Disassembly is a lot easier for cleaning and trigger work. Not having to open to recock the hammer is a big plus to me. My choice would be the G2. ;D
