new to contenders have question about .44 mag barrel
« on: June 28, 2003, 07:12:01 PM »
I just got my contender at a local gunshow. It came with two barrels, a 10" .30 herrett and a 8" .44 mag i now know that the .30 herrett is a reloader only but the question comes about the .44 mag. It looks like it's ported and it has threads in the end of it. am i missing something important and if so does any one have one for sale or where can I get it? I havent shot it yet as I am not sure about it. thanks for any help.

You need a choke tube

The threads are for a choke tube. This is for shooting T/C Hotshot shot loads. It is not needed for firing regular bulleted .44special, or .44 mag cartridges. It's not very good, but the quickest pic I could find is at:

It does show a barrel with the external choke attached. If you feel you just gotta have one, post in the classified forum, or shoot the barrel off to T/C, and ask for a replacement. You might even be able to get one from them with a telephone call.  (603) 332-2333 Or Fax (603) 332-5133. Hope this helps >>>>>>>>Bug.

That choke for the .44 mag barrel will help you in only two ways.  1). it will increase the $ value of your barrel.  It is not fully original without the screw in choke.  2) It will help strip the covering off of a 44 hot shot capsul if you are going to shoot any.  They go for about a $1 each, if you can find them.  They have not been made in a bazillion years.

As stated in the prior post, the barrel is ready to shoot 44 mags.  It is likely an octagon barrel so be careful, it will heat up quickly.

Enjoy the new gun!

The 8" octagon barrel will also kick like a mule with full house loads. The voice of experience speaking!
