Left Handed Bolt Gun?
« on: January 10, 2008, 06:55:53 AM »
Lets say you wanted a left handed bolt gun in Stainless Steel with a Laminate stock.  Lets say you'd also prefer 25-06, 257 or 308 as your calibers.  Does anyone know what options are available?  My catalog shows Ruger makes an LSS model in 25-06 but not the other choices.  I tend to stay away from Savages, but I'd consider them if they fit the bill.  Ideas?  Would I be better buying a gun and changing the stock myself?  Understand that I have nearly no craftsmanship genes.

I bought the lefty, Ruger, stainless, laminate in .25-06 2 years ago and am happy with it.  If you like light rifles, it's not for you.  It's not thatheavy, but it's no lightweight.  While not the most accurate rifle I've seen, it'll put certain loads into an inch at 100 yards if I do my part.  I think Savage's lefty, stainless rifles all come with plastic stocks (the model 16).  I have a couple savages, including one model 16 as well as the Ruger.  The Ruger looks nicer, but I don't have a strong preference for one over the other.

Look at the Browning A-Bolt.  Comes Left hand, S/S, Syn.  I just bought one for the wife in 25-06.  She loves it.

I own two LH Browning Stainless Stalkers, a 25/06 and a 30/06.  I'm very pleased with both.  These have a synthetic stock.  The only laminated stock lefty's I'm aware of are Ruger's.

Don't discount Savages, I've got a model 11FL in 7mm-08 that is super accurate.

Tikka T3. I got one LH in 30-06sprg Stainless/Synthetic for $700. Every rifle is fired and guaranteed to shoot factory ammo 1" or less 3shot at 100yd. Best rifle I've ever held by far, the only action that comes close to smoothness and feel is a Browning A-bolt II Medallion. Which MSRP at close to $300-$500 more. Standard adjustable trigger, barrel and action is machined from one-piece. Comes with SS rings, the rail is also drilled and tapped. 3-round detatchable box mag, you can buy 5-rounders also. The first time I fired mine I used cheap 165grn Korean FMJ from stripper clips and I averaged 3/4"-1 1/2" 3 round group at 100m (about 110yd). I now handload and easily get 1/4"-1/2" groups andstill have room to tweak my handloads to shrink it down. Best rifle you can buy for under $2000.
