THUMB HOLE STOCK OR NOT
« on: January 11, 2008, 11:18:23 AM »
I just recieved a email from TC and they said they would replace my walnut buttstock with a camo(regular stock) or I could get the camo thumb hole stock for$9.04 more.

I think i'll get the thumb hole i've never had one but I think i'll give it a try.

What do you guy's think about a thumb hole stock?  like um or not

I don't have an opinion...yet!  I just got a plastic thumbhole for my Encore.  I did see a guy trading a thumbhole for a regular stock the other day.  I asked why and he said the thumbhole had just a little more drop at the comb and the regular stock fit him better for scoped applications.  I don't know what height rings and mounts he was using.

When I bought my encore years ago the first thing I did was get a synthetic thumbhole for it off of ebay.  I loved it, then the prohunter synthetic came out and I bought one of those and sold my old one on ebay.  The prohunter has the better recoil pad, but any thumbhole better to me.  You couldn't go wrong with one.

I like mine. I put a limbsaver on it. It doesn't fit perfect but it works. I wish I had the walnut thumbhole though.

I guess I'll be the odd man out - I much prefer the standard stock to the thumb hole stock.  To me, the standard stock feels a lot like a thumb hole stock as it is, just without the bridge over the top, which makes access to the hammer easier.  Also, the thumb hole stock doesn't seem to fit my hand quite right.  As always, your mileage may vary.  If your local gun shop has both, try them out for yourself.

I like the standard stock just as much. The Thumbhole is just on some of the guns for longer shots. It comes in to play big time with me. I have the standard on some of the guns I need a quicker shot on.

Its more of a personal thing and what works for you. Thumbhole stocks from Gunstocks Inc. are my preference. I do not like hammer spurs so I use high rings for clearance between the scope and frame. The rise of this stock gives me perfect allingment with the scope. Some say the thumbhole  slows down a follow up shot, but this has never been a problem for me. And then there is the cosmetics, I really like the looks and feel of the thumbhole stock.

I agree with Dave.  I had them make me a thumbhole Contender stock a while back and I love it.  They added an inch of pull over factory specs and it fits me like a glove.  The products they make are good and they are great folks to work with.
