Lockbumping
« on: January 11, 2008, 11:33:49 AM »
Check out the attached video.  This seems to be the new preferred method for home invasion.  My locks are fairly safe, I carry a good insurance policy, and am further insured by a Colt .45 automatic, and just to ensure I am not outgunned there is an AR with 30 round mag as well as a 870 with eight rounds of 00 buck close by.

I don't worry when at home, but this make it look like most of are very venerable when away from home.....make all of your older friends who are high risk for a home invasion aware of this new entry procedure.

That's scary. I never heard of such a thing. Dale

at my house they would bump the lock and the next thing they bump is the muzzle of my .357. then perhaps when my wife or i am done, we let the husky/shepherd mix chew a little. that's OUR policy on lockbumping.

Provided you're home.  What happens when no one is home?

Having been burgled twice--home and auto--I can see that some don't understand the psychological effects. I also can't explain them to anyone too a degree that it will make relevant sense---however--
stuff is not always just stuff and ones awareness is not always so keen as to react properly and in good timing at an instant intervention by a BG.
Depending on the situation, one could be overwhelmed before resistance could happen.
Now burglars are not always cowards--most of them are--but under the correct circumstances they can react very violently (cowardly).
It is VERY good information that I was not aware of and will be sending this to a number of friends.

That is a very surprising video. What is not said is that the key needs to be the correct blank to start with... one key does not fit all

This is something that is not really new.  I first heard about on the news it and saw videos of it on U-tube well over a year ago.  Good information though.

I agree with WilliamLayton. We had thieves come into our home while we were in bed asleep and it's not something you get over right away no matter how much insurance your have.  If, in fact, you ever do.  My wife became almost phobic about locked doors and windows and we may have been the only couple we knew with "his and hers" pistols hanging from each side of the headboard of our bed.

You guys are correct about the psychological affect of having your home or auto burgled.  My vehicles have been broken into twice and its a sick feeling.  One I don't care to repeat with having my house broken into.  I think everyone here will agree that keeping ones family safe is a priority, but to lose the sense of security  because someone broke into your home can be just as damaging.

Its a good thing I have a Marlin 30/30, a HR  breakaction shotgun, and a  Mossberger 20 gauge shotgun under my bed.

My son tells me that being burglarized leaves a felling near to what a woman experiences after being raped.  He was burglarized by an awful brave intruder as he and his wife lay in the bed asleep, while his dog looked on.  The burglar came into their bedroom, took my son's wallet off the night stand, went around the bed and took my daughter-in-law's purse and a couple of diamond rings that were laying on her night stand, went back into the kitchen, took some food items, removed $1200. from the wallet and about $300. from the purse, dropped them on the floor in the kitchen and left.  My son had a loaded .45 in a drawer in the night stand, but he never heard a sound, his wife said she heard the dog growl, but she told it to shut up, rolled over and went back to sleep.

I partially lay the blame on my daughter-in-law, she had scolded the dog so much about barking that you could tear the house down and it wouldn't bark.  She once scolded my dogs for barking at her when she came to my house, but I told her to shut up and leave them alone,  they were only doing their job, and that was what I wanted them to do, bark at everything that comes on the property.

I may get robbed while home, but I really don't worry about it as long as the dogs are here.  It is when we are away that concerns me.

If they want to get in and you've got a glass window on the 1st floor what good is upgrading your locks? Upgrade your dogs.

Rockabilly, I have known in my travels a few professional thieves and if they stole food, unless it was truffles and caviar, they were not pros. Probably kids or homeless that just got lucky.
