Rechamber on a .17 hmr.....
« on: January 12, 2008, 05:25:37 AM »
Could anyone direct me to someone to contact to see about the possibility of
having a .17 hmr barrel rechambered to .17 remington.I want to find out if it
is inexpensive enough to consider buying a new rifle for the barrel to have this
done,as I really want a Handi in .17 remington.Thanks for any help and/or info
about this matter.

Any good gunsmith can do the job, a lot of us here use Wayne York of Oregunsmithing, he's done several for me.  Board sponsor SSK will also do them, I'm pretty sure.

Thanks, will contact them and see what they say.Gunsmiths around here don't seem to want to mess with the small
calibers.Seems if it doesn't have "Magnum" in the name, people around here don't want to bother with it ::)
Thanks again,

This guy did your exact project for me, he has a reamer and everything.  I also had him taper the barrel and re-blue, think it was very inexpesive, I have also had him do a 17 Remington barrel for a Savage.  Larry

Looking at the ballistics of the .17 Remington & the .204 Ruger, the .204 has a slight advantage.  What would be some of the advantages of the .17 Remington?  I had been thinking about doing the same thing.  Or maybe one of the other .17 centerfire chamberings.
