TCR 83 questions
« on: January 12, 2008, 01:03:57 PM »
Not sure if I got a good deal or not, but I picked up a TCR 83 with double trigger, regular stock(non-fancy), came with .223 and 30.06 barrel.  The 30.06 barrel looks great inside but somehow got some blueing rubbed off the outside and will need to be redone for appearances only.  I gave $500 for it.  Wanted to know if I did ok.  I see after doing some research I better be happy with the barrels it came with since the factory burned down.

How did I do on the price?

Anyone still own and shoot these?

I have found a 7mm barrel for sale and a 12 guage.  How bad do these little guys kick with those barrels?

Any other comments welcome, good or bad.

Thanks,

haus

I owned one a  few years back with 7 Rem Mag, 308 Win and 22-250 barrels. I don't think you will like it! I am willing to take it off your hands to spare you the disappointment. PM me when you are ready to unload it.

;D I bet you would.  I shot the 223 with open sights this weekend and was pleased at the results.  Have some scope bases and rings on the way.  Maybe next weekend I can see what she will really do.  06 did not kick near as bad as I thought it would.

I have barrels in 223, 22 hornet, 22-250, 7mm-08, 7mm mag, 308, 30-06, 32-40  and 12 gauge slug.  Have two frames, but both are single trigger hunter types.  You stole that rig for $500, be happy!  As for recoil, while the gun is light, the stock is well designed and even with 12 gauge 3 inch mag slugs, doesn't kick too bad.  Makes a good hunting rig for places where there are lines between rifle and shotgun counties.  My 12 gauge slug barrel is smooth bored, but shoots about as good as my hastings rifled barrel on my 870, 100 yard groups with winchester bri slugs run about 3-4 inches, i have a 1x burris scope on that barrel.  the 7mm-08 barrel is as accurate a firearm as I have ever owned it is a 26 inch medium sporter weight.  If you want a challenge, try finding a 32-40 barrel and make it shoot lead bullets with black powder well....I haven't been able to make that work yet...does well with smokeless lead and jacketed, but no real joy with BP.
My only complaint about the TCR is that Twice, I've had to send one of my frames back to replace the firing  pin and firing pin spirng.  TC fixed it free both times, but I don't think they did it right the first time, been great since the second fix.
