Model Seven in 17 Rem
« on: January 14, 2008, 04:19:00 AM »
Bought this the other day. Great shape except for a scratched floor plate. I've read these were made only from 1992-1994, but my source didn't have how many were made. Any help would be appreciated.

No clue I've heard of them but never actually laid eyes on one. It should make an excellent calling rifle for coyotes or walking varmint rifle. You could contact Remington and ask they might be able to provide some idea of how many were made. For sure around my area they are rare since I've never seen one show up in a gun shop or at a gunshow yet.

That's exactly what I got it for, those coyotes, with maybe an odd prairie dog. I will give the folks at Remington a call. Thanks!

Love them model 7's.  Can I ask what you had to give?  I have seen some in 17 bring a good amount on gunbroker when a couple of guys get in a pissing match.  Congrats on your new toy.

I feel I got took,price-wise. I paid about the 90% amount of bluebook for an 80-85% rifle. But as you say, they don't come up often. Since CZ quit on the 17 REM caliber, They are fewer and farther apart. Do you have one?

That ought to make a dandy calling rifle!  Good find.  The price might have stung a bit, but I have a feeling that it'll be worth it to you once you take it out a few times.  If I get a lot of use out of a rifle, I never really remember or care about the price, just enjoy it.

That's good advice. It has been cold (for here)(between 10 and 20 degrees F) and I'm thinking this would be a good weekend to "talk to the animals". I'll let you know how it works.

Yeah I've got "took" a couple of times.  Bought a TC Renegade (caplock) muzzle loader from a guy on gunbroker.com who lied and said bore was squeaky clean when it was filthy and pitted.  The guy dropped off the face of the earth when I started raising hell, so I cleaned it up, polished the bore as best I could, and shot it.

The bore still looks like the surface of the moon, but I have a 12 inch round steel plate that I hang from a cable gate and shoot at.  At 125 yards I can hit it every time with a 370 grain Maxi ball pushed by 100 grains FF powder using the open sights.  That's what we call "minute of venison."  Past 125 yards, the front sight is wider than the target, so that's where I stop.

I took 3 deer with it this year, so it'll do.
