400 tags this year!!

The KDFWR is going to alot 400 elk tags this season. Drawing will take place in May this year so get on it ;)

Thats great.  There were some REALLY nice bulls taken last year shown on the website.  Can't wait to not get drawn again!

Wow, 400 tags..........what is the KY Elk herd population , to issue 400 tags ????
And I just wondered.....here where i live in SE Missouri , we don't have a ton of deer, mostly clear cut delta cotton land, no woods, no trees.....my question is, I know what a car looks like, when you hit a 200 pound buck , ( unfortunately ) , but what in the heck would it look like if you hit a 1200 pound Elk ???And has KY had that "issue"...I know elk are transplants there....and I was curious.. I would imagine there are alot of folks, that have no idea , Kentucky has an elk herd.

how do you apply for one of these permits I have been to KY's fish and wildlife web site but I cant find where to apply.

Ky has the largest elf herd east of the Miss, around 6500. Yes we have had several incidents with car hitting elk and I have seen at least twp people sent to the hospital because of it :o

WOW! that's a lot of elves! No wonder they issued so many tags, those guys usually move on after Christmas... but a permanent population like that could put a real strain on the local ecosystem.  ;D
