panhead blues
« on: January 15, 2008, 10:18:45 AM »
kind of sad day, kind of a happy day...
made a trade with a guy; i am trading off my panhead for a later model bike.   on one hand, it is going to be nice to have two i can ride frequently, one set up for long trips and the other a day rider.
it will be kind of a sad thing as well because i got that bike and it was a turning point in my life,  it picked me up when i desperately needed it.     but... it is a good trade, both of us are happy and the new owner is in a better position to do what the bike needs to have done.   and, he lives close so i will be able to follow his progress with it.  he is the kind of guy i was hoping would find, aquire, and love this bike.  and it is always fun to get a new toy; even if you have to get rid of another one to make room in the stable.  lol.

Panheads are classic, beautiful and "Old School". I have had the experience of riding a panhead but have never owned one. I understand your sadness.

That big handsome bike behind that big handsome man is a 1999 Fatboy. The solid wheels are the Fatboy trademark. I will try to post a better pic in the near future. It rides as great as it looks and the newer technology makes it totally reliable. I love looking at it almost as much as riding it. It is an American piece of artwork. Milwaukee born.

Went thru the same feelings back in 1999. Had a 1991 Road King, and a 1966 shovel that I had bought and rode since 1973. I had tore down the '66 to rebuild it a couple years earlier, just like I had done every 2-4 years since I had bought it. Sold it since I had gotten married, had the '91 to ride, so away it went. Had pretty close to 100,000 miles  on that bike in the years I owned it. Had alot of memories on that scooter. Most good, a couple not so. Sold the Road King in 2003 I believe. Only had 20,000 miles on it. Barely broke in! Maybe again someday.  gypsyman

very nice.
got the new horse in the stable,  and the mrs. has pretty much laid claim to it.  she was up all night dreaming about mototcylces, lol.  she can balance it,  but it would be nicer if it sat a tad lower for her.  in time i am going to put a kit on it and a different seat to bring it down a few inches .  first has to get her permit. then we are going to find a smaller jap bike for a reasonable price for her to learn on; or send her to the tech college up here for the wisconsin hands on course before she tries the big un.  i told her if she can handle it,  she can use it.  at first she didnt like that, but now it is within her reach and she is much happier about it.
anyhow, it is a nice scooter,  very nice paint and the bags are crazy nice.   i need to change the bars though as it has the buckhorns now, which i hate.  easy fix though.   all in all it sucked watching the pan go down the road,  but it was nice having another rider in the barn.

I feel for you. I had a '79 sportster that would foul the plugs if you looked at it funny. It seemed like I worked on it as much as I rode it. When I met the girl that I would later marry, she liked to ride as much as I did and traded it in on a '90 electraglide. I still wish I had that sporty. I miss it. Now with two kids it's hard to find time to go for rides. I bought a '98 ultraclassic two years ago and now I am having a hard time getting rid of the electraglide, though I really need to, it's just sitting there and I could always use the cash.

Sorry I'm wandering, congrats on the new bike and I'd like to see the pics also.

it warmed up here- it was -11 this morning.   a regular heat wave.   i was dreaming about riding last night....and i am eager for a little warmer weather.    next year i am thinking daytona; this year is a little too tight.
