would a winchester lever action 480 be a great hog gun?

the .480 Ruger caliber certainly would be fine for hogs, but I wasn't aware that Winchester was making a lever gun that would accomodate the .480 cartridge. Have you heard something I haven't?

I had a post that asked a question very similar to this some months ago, but it was just a theoretical question. Most people theorized that, since Marlin hasn't done it with the 454 Casull, then chances are that they won't do it with the .480.

So is your question just theoretical? or did you find something out? We're curious.

well it made me curious also so I looked at the winchester firearms site and in the traditional 94 it shows it in 480. I don't know that means it actually is in production.

well i saw one in the pawn shop the other day and thought ti was maybe 30-30 but it said 480 on it and i thought it would be an awesome companion for those who have 480 pistols

There's another lever action winchester lookalike, and I think I just saw it in the latest issue of BoarHunter Magazine. I'm not sure were I saw the ad, but it was chambered for 480 ruger and 454 casul. Hope I helped a little.

That would be the Puma 92 rifle which is chambered in 454 Casull and now in 480 Ruger. Winchester is supposed to be bringing out the 94 in 480 Ruger but it hasn't meaterialized yet.

I sure do like the idea of a 454 in a lever-action, but I have never heard of "Puma" rifles. How do they compare to Marlin and Winchester?

They are a good quality copy of the Winchester Model 92, made by Rossi. There's a review of one, written by Paco Kelly, over at Gunblast.com

they have several dealers with the 94 in stock retail about $550. My question is the 480 that much of an improvement over a 44 mag in a rifle?
And who makes componets for reloading the 480?

Hornady and Speer make ammo and bullets to reload for it. I will also utilize any bullet for the 475 Linebaugh.
I reload 325gr and 400gr bullets and Speer also makes a 275gr bullet.
I also saw another retail price of $469 for it on galleryofguns, so hopefully that means it will be at least a 100 less than that.
The 480 Ruger in a pistol is about 30-40% more powerful than a 44mag pistol with heavier bullets and larger bore diameter. The 480 rifle should be about the same more powerful than a 44mag rifle with the cooresponding larger diameter and heavier bullets.
I can push 325gr bullets at 1500 in my Super Redhawk and 1250 with 400 gr bullets. That is 100fps less than the 475 Linebaugh.
I generally load them down a bit--1100fps with the 400grSP and 1350 with the 325 which is the same as factory loads.
