winchester 571 powder

I just received about four pounds of winchester 571 powder from an old friend. It is perfectly good. I would like to use this for my 45 LC or 357 mag. or 32 S&W long. Does anyone have any data for these bullets and powder combinations? I just read a burn rate chart and blue dot powder is right next to 571 in burn rate. Can someone use blue dot rate as a substitute? I was told that you could use HS7 data.

This sounds like one of those times when saving older reloading manuals would have been a good idea. Winchester 571 was discontinued but the Hodgdon website states their HS-7 is identical to the 571. BUT, now the HS-7  also has been discontinued.

Lyman 48th Edition has load data using the HS-7 for the .357 Mag and 45 Colt

I have the 47th. manuel there is not a lot of hs7 info. On either 357 or 45 LC. Is the 48th manual still on sale? If so I may buy on to use info. I shoot 255 gr. hardcast in 45LC also 240 grain jacketed. In 357 almost any bullet is available to me. Any info would be helpful. THANKS

Pretty limited as to bullet selection in the Lyman 48th using the HS-7:
357 Mag. - 125 gr. JHP and 120 gr. cast (Pistol)

45 Colt - 185 gr. JHP (Pistol & Rifle) 240 gr. JHC (Rifle)

I have a Winchester 15th Edition Reloaders Manual that's dated 1997. Winchester 571 powder is not used in any of the data in that manual but notes that it was discontinued.
Maybe you can find an older Winchester Reloading Manual.

Contacting Hodgdon asking what they recommend as a replacement for the HS-7 might be helpful too.

Pulled down a couple old manuals just to see what I could see and the only loads I see listed for 571 are for the 44 mag and 44 special.  There are also some listings for 357 mag with light weight (121gr.) cast slugs.  The original application for 571 is listed for "the very heaviest of 10 to 20ga. magnum shotshell loads".

Hodgdon Data Manual 24 has numerous listings for HS-7 in 357 and 44 but none for 45LC.  When I get a chance later tonite I'll pull out some other manuals and see what I can find if no one else offers up anything.
