How do you conceal your weapon?
« on: June 30, 2003, 05:34:58 AM »
I live in Ohio and currently we cannot carry concealed, but that will change very soon either by a court ruling or by a new law that is awaiting to be signed by the governor.

I want to know how you "conceal" your handgun while at work?  My work attire is a pair of kaki's and a polo styled shirt.  So carrying a firearm could be a challenge.  They way I see it, I have to have a realtively small firearm such as a Karh MK9 or MK40 in a pocket or ankle holster.  The belly bands I have seen and worthless as I see it.  I would have to nearly take off my shirt to access my gun.  I'm really leaning towards something in my pocket.

Experienced advice warmly welcomed!   :D

Belly bands

I'll have to respectfully disagree with you about said belly bands.

When worn, for a man, right-handed, as though in the appendix position, but opposite it, in a belly band, with the grip to the midline of the abdomen, and with the last two buttons above the belt line, sewn into the button hole, and the shirt then affixed with velcro, access is as simple as plunging your hand thru the shirt front opening to grasp the weapon!

If the weapon has an exposed hammer, place the thumb of the weapon-hand over the hammer to prevent its snagging on the shirt front.
I am, therefore, I think.

Sometimes a slight modification in your regular attair my be required, I carry daily with both button up shiorts and pull over Golf shirts, usually I carry a mid sized smith for example a 6906, a 39, colt officers 45, a kel-tec p11, and a assortment of others, usually in a Don Haum form fitting IWB holster, on the R side my strong side, hope that helped and good luck with the new CCW law. :D   JIM

The PPK and the Ruger 2" SP101 fit in an unclemikes pocket holster in Khakis that are not too tight.  The PPK is smaller and fits a bit better, but I can manage with the SP101.

With Federal Hydrashocks, you get 7(6+1) shots and a fast reload with a loaded spare mag with the PPK.

or

5 full house .357 and a slow reload with the SP101.

My 40 cal Glock 23 and two spare mags, fit well in a zippered day planner from Nike (5"x7")that I bought at a school supply. It's black cloth and has rubber trim...It bangs around with me all over and nobody ever looks at it twice.  Can't have too much day planning! :D

I love my Thunderware holster.  About the only time I can't use that holster is with tighter fitting pants/shorts.  With the right shorts, I can even get away with my Glock 22 AND a spare mag...although that sometimes attracts the attention of the ladies.  :-D  :)  :-D  :)   At work I use a Kramer Confidant shirt holster.  All of my uniform shirts have zippers where the buttons should be, and the buttons are sewn in place over the button holes.  That makes easy access to the shirt holstered weapon (Kahr K40).  With an untucked shirt, the Kahr will also conceal very well for me in a Galco strong side belt holster, though sometimes I have to slide it way forward to avoid printing when I bend over.

cknight,

I think everyone should own a Thunderware holster.  When I'm on vacation in states that don't allow me to CCW, I use the thing as a moneybelt.  And talk about getting the ladies' attention...when I'm on vacation in bear ridden areas, I'll even stuff a 4" Model 66 in the thing.  I just have to be REAL careful while bending over the tailgate of my truck to reach into the bed.         That has gotten my attention more than once.  I guess someone is making a cheaper copy of the Thunderware now, but I'm still using the original one I got in 1994 (or so).

I find if I lift up a roll of fat, and place it over my Commander, no one can see it. Just looks like a tumor or some other growth, and no one asks about it.

My preference is to carry in a strong side belt holster, either outside the pants or IWB. Saying that, I often carry using a pocket holster in the summer time. I have carried a Walther PPK since 1957 and use the following: belt holster- Gun Gear S230 (winter time wearing suit coat or long jacket).  IWB holster- Bianchi 100 Sz9 (winter & summer wear, a polo shirt worn outside covers nicely and seldom prints).  Pocket holster- I like Uncle Mikes sidekick size 2 (nice when wearing shorts and tucked-in shirt, very comfortable and does not print).  Hope this help give some ideas.

BTW: I am a NRA Instructor and teach CCW classes for both Colorado and Utah. :D

Hey guys,
I carry a Kahr pm9, I have a desantis pocket holster its ok but I have to find a higher quality pocket holster (kramer, fist, etc). I have used and seen the higher priced pocket holsters and they are well worth the price.
The uncle mikes and desantis still print through the pocket. If someone LOOKS they will see it, but most people don't even notice it. Drawing the pistol is easier with the high quality holsters as well. The best pouch I have used is the desantis discreet pouch. this thing is great. Glock 19 or smaller will fit nicely. it has a paddle for easy on/off. this is worth taking a look at.

My everyday holster is a Blade-tec UCH.  That is a tuckable designed for my S&W Airweight.  I have worn it for years at work and no one knows.  I carried the Smith for years, but have now gone to a Charter Bulldog .44 with just a slight modification to the holster.  Be sure and buy your pants one size larger than you normally would and blouse you shirt.  You also need a properly designed belt.  I bought and sold a lot of holsters when I was younger thinking most didn't work as advertised.  Because I wore a heavy belt, I thought I was set.  A few years ago I bought an Aker Agent belt.  This belt has a plastic stiffener inside it and absoulutely will not twist and allow your gun to lean out away from your body.  It is a must have for CCW!  I found the MK Kahr too heavy, you will end up leaving it home most of the time.  Buy one of Kahr's polymer frame pistols (we have two, one for me, and one for my wife), they are much lighter to carry.  My Pm9 Covert drops in a front pocket and disappears in an Uncle Mikes.  44 Man

:D Not so wise one submit; Very good point but point of deposit of said moisture be critical. My weapon, in Thunderwear, ride at higher location than my gun muzzle.
