Stevens 200 barrels-Interchangeable with Savage's?
« on: January 16, 2008, 01:31:29 PM »
I am assuming they are but if I get a Stevens 200  can I get Savage 110 barrels and interchange them?  If I look to some custom barrels do they list them for the stevens or the savage 110?  Are there any limitations or additional drawbacks to swapping barrels?

Thanks,

Bob

The barrels are the same.  Only a few of the magnum cal Savages have a larger barrel shank and threads, but mostly they are all the small shank barrels that fit all the .223's to the 30-06's etc.  Short action and long action barrels are the same also and will screw onto either receiver.  Only other thing is that some of the very early 110's had a recessed breach type barrel, like a Remington, but they only lasted a couple of years and now all are flat breach barrels.  Larry

As Larry says, typically the RUM's and WSM's have a different shank size than other calibers.  Other than that, they should all fit.

It is common for savaholics to get a stevens action for the basis of a custom, as the actions are typically the same as Savages.

The other concern is the bolt head - 0.378 for the .223/.204; 0.473 for pretty much everything else smaller than a magnum.  Like the barrels, these are pretty much user changeable.

As has been stated already about the barrels they are interchangeable. On a Savage the bolt heads are also interchangeable. If you have a 223 and want to change it to a 308, it is possible.  Change the barrel, bolt head and magazine well and presto change O you are now a 308 shooter. At the price of a new Stevens, it may be more cost effective to buy a second gun, but I like to tinker and that has some value to me. I have two Stevens that I have worked on and have the two barrels that came on them plus I have 2 after market barrels that I have added to the mix. I got both of mine through Mid-Way USA and they were listed as 110 barrels. As mentioned already just make sure about action length and shank size. There are lots of possibilities.
