well here's a sample of the end product. all the questions i asked and all the money i spent ( much to my wifes dis-stress ), time reading and re-reading and finally setting down and trying my hand at loading. the pic shows 6 of the 25 rounds i made up for the 45-70 ( NEF said it will be here anytime now
) .
the 3 on the left are 405 grain flat nose and the 3 on the right are 405 grain hollow points. they sit on new winchester brass and are pushed by 45 grains of varget.
the flat nose are pushed by 28 grains of hodgdon 4198. i tried my hand at crimping with the flat nose, i used RCBS dies, and i think them came out purty good, although i think i should have used CCI primers, not the winchester's i did use. i'll see how they shoot. they fit into the chamber of my buddies 45-70 handi just fine at a c.o.l. of 2.554
i just thought i'd share my efforts. thanks to everyone here who helped me, and put up with my questions. a thank you goes out to stimpy for the bullets and guidance.
