Non functioning military surplus weapons. Source question.

Any one have a source for bad bore or otherwise non functioning military surplus firearms? I have a couple projects/plans and I would rather not chop up any functioning or otherwise collectible C&R guns.

Any one have any knowledge of the laws regarding trading/selling a non functioning firearm as parts? My ideal candidate would be a fairly complete rifle with refinishable wood but a rusty damaged bore. Some missing bolts, pins, or hardware would be perfectly acceptable.

I recently bought a Pattern 14 DEWAT, same motivation as you. Had a hole drilled through barrel next to receiver, with a pin driven in and welded. A few taps with a hammer/punch got the pin out, inspection showed the rest of the rifle to be in good or better condition. Had to go through an FFL dealer when I got it, I think federal law says that you have to do paperwork to transfer a weapon IF IT CAN BE RESTORED TO SHOOTING CONDITION, but just what their definition of this is, I don't know. Most people will go the paperwork route, just to make sure.

FWIW, P14 Enfields are one of the last great buys on the surplus market. Scarce but almost no demand, so prices still low. I got mine for $175, have seen several others go for similar amount. Just bought a second one, already has the ears ground off, and has a sporter stock, also $175. Might consider selling the first one. What state are you in?

I am in the middle Tennessee area. there are a ton of C&R type guns out there that would work for me but I hate to use a gun that could be made fully functional as a parts rifle. As a side note I could also possibly use just a complete stock without the barreled receiver if I found the right deal on one.

I can't find the flyer now but Sarco Inc. or Century or one of those folks were selling VZ45 or one of those eastern Com block nations semi Autos as kits, cheap maybe $75 and a dummy receiver for another $20.00.  Then you just assembled your "dummy nonfunctioning gun" from the parts kit onto the dummy reciever.  No FFL needed and it is classifed as a non-gun.

Never had an interest in these so I didn't pay a whole lot of attention as to who it was that had them...
