Newbie question about wheel weights

I have a source of wheel weights, just wondering if they would work with my .450, a 455grain bullet with a gas check pushed about 1700 fps., or do I need to mix that with some softer lead?

my tire shop saves them for me also . told me that soon they would be made of something other than lead ? anyone else heard such ?
