Can I wait to put powder/bullet in after priming?

 Hey guys,
I have 100 cases ready to be primed and finished. I have been really busy with school lately and just wondered if it was ok for me to prime these 100 cases this weekend and then finish them up next weekend or does this step need to be done the same time so nothing happens to the primers. Thanks guys!

You'll be fine to prime them now and finish later.  I do mine in batches and have boxes of already primed cases waiting for me to get around to finish the loading process.

No problem. I've happen to have a bunch of 45s waiting on me to get back to them. I think I primed them in OCT.

I usually prepare and prime the cases then put them in marked zip lock plastic bags for later use.  I have stored them for years this way.  I also have some in coffee cans and never had a misfire.  If I am going to use them for cast bullets, I run them thru my Lyman "M" die first.

Not a problem. I do this all the time with loads I do on my Rockchucker. I normally prime with my RCBS hand primer

spy231, I hope you are priming BEFORE you charge and seat. If not you are a disaster waiting to happen. If a primer went off in a charged round you are looking at serious injury!!! Please tell us you typed that without thinking.    KN

I think that this was an eye stigma thing as that was my first thought after reading the subject line. To read it again, the key work is "wait" which seems to make the stigma go away.

Anyway...I tend to get paranoid about leaving primed cases in the shell holder because I worry about anything from dust bunnys to spiders getting in them even though my loading area
Is clean. I have let them set after priming but will usually cover them up with a clean cloth or paper towel.

I would suggest that you put them in a sealed container like a tupperware bowl --or a coffe can-- or if you put them in a loading block to put them primer end up.  I put some in a loading block with the mouth up and some sort of little varmint built a nest inside of one.  Luckily, I eye ball my cases under a strong light after I've charged them to make sure the powder level is kinda level in each one before I seat my bullets. Don't know what would have happened but I'm glad I didn't find out.

Cases can be purchased that are already primed. If there was a problem with this, the manufacturers would not offer this option. Just like primers; store them in a cool, dry place. They will be fine.

woodchukhntr, please tell me more regarding your use of Lyman's M-die for cast bullet loads. I'm curious,........one question I'd have is are you doing this for pistol or rifle loads, but I'd just like to understand  in general what the M-die is, & why it's  used. Thanx, jd45

+1 here. When I am loading single stage I usually prep and prime and then stick them in a zip lock until I have time to charge and seat.

I size and prime most of mine before they get reloaded, and it works out fine.  I use really big plastic fishing totes to seperate out the difference calibers, helps to make sure that no debris gets into the primed casings. 

You see companies that sell primed hulls, no knowing how long they have been sitting around...

I also have several hundred primed and ready to load.I have always done this for all the cals I load,around 17 different ones.........Rick
