Here is what I would do if I were you guys. Actually this is what I did,
Start out with a simple google search of "wisconsin feral pigs". You should find countless bits of information, including hits straight from the WDNR. Find an area on this map were you'd like to hunt.
http://dnr.wi.gov/org/land/wildlife/Images/Publ/factsheets/pig/WisconsinFeralPigMap.pdfNow start contacting the biologists of the area you intend to hunt. Ask where the recent sighting are of the hogs. Get out a gazatier and pinpoint where they supposedly are. If it's deemed they are living on private land, start knocking of doors and ask the farmers. I have had no problem obtaining permision to hunt private land, as most farmers want the hogs killed. It is common to have farmers tell ya no to deer hunting, but hogs are a different game. Now study your quarry well. Hogs are far more inteligent than most people think, and they have a much better nose that do deer. Know that hogs are strictly nocturnal, unless pushed or driven. They will come out at dusk, about when you start to see deer come out, and they'll be bedded back down come sun-up, and it'll be in the thickest nastiest place they can find. It is legal to shoot hogs at night with a rifle and a light, however the lights can only be used at the point of kill, not for locating. Scout scout and scout some more. In my experience, i have found plenty of fresh sign without finding the classic uprooting they are so well known for. Look for small creeks and streams with sandy or muddy edges so any tracks they may have made will be obvious. Hogs tracks are very similar to deer track, but deer are more pointy, while hog tracks have a gap in the front hoofs. Also, hogs will use trails over and over, much as deer do. Any trails you find going straight up a steep hill are likey hog trails, not deer trails. You can not bait for hogs, although the USDA will bait traps for them at times, so if you know of such a set up, I'd think you could sit on it and wait, but that's just my opinion. The scented products are legal, as with deer. Lots of hog scent products are out on the market, but I've little faith in them. Some folks swear by a product called "Black Gold", but I did not have any results when I tried it. You can get this stuff from
http://www.texasboars.com/phpBB2/index.php The guy that runs that sight is friend with Graybeard here, so no pimping someones product worries here LOL. Plus that site has forums which can help, in addition to our own wild hog forum here at GBO.
While hunting at night, use your ears. I could not believe how much noise they make. So loud they even woke me up at 3 am while camped near them.
I am no final authority on Wisconsin hogs by any stretch, just telling y'all what worked for me. Good luck
