IMR 4198 is a good powder. Most books say 29-30 with a 125 Bullet. 125 Ballistic tip is a good bullet for this application.

Not a 30-30, but the 30-30IMP and it likes IMR4198 and H4895 with the Nosler 125gr. B-Tips. Accuracy from my barrel is best with the H4895. Accuracy is very good with the IMR4198 and M.V. higher than the H4895. I am still doing Load-D with the H4895 trying to get the M.V. up and keep the accuracy.

Notice the 3 center groups.

Again not the 30-30 but the 30-30IMP. My particular barrel did not like it. Using 125gr. Nosler B-Tips over Vaget powder M.V was down and accuracy wasn't what I wanted. But on the other hand if you have it I would try it. Your barrel may like it.

I like Reloader #7 with the 125gr bullets in my 30-30 contender 14" barrel, very accurate 1" groups off a rest at 100yds. also Win 748 with good results.

I use Varget for 30-30. I use a 150 nosler accubond bullet. I did get good accuracy. Also it is 3 for three on deer.

I use  AA2230 with Hornady 130gr SP.  Very good in my 14" barrel.   Steve

My three deer were all close. Within 30 yards. Right now I have it sighted in at 50 yards with a red dot scope. I know it can shoot alot farther accuratley but I have not found a good scope I like. I think I need a T/C scope for the hold I like.

How's the recoil with the 30-30 contender pistol and a 10 or 14" barrel?  I hear some people complain of recoil in 30-30 lever actions and would imagine in a pistol that it would be pretty bad.  ???

I am recoil averse and don't have any problem with my 12 inch 30-30.  My 45LC with heavy bullets is more of a hand full.
