New guy with a couple of questions
« on: January 17, 2008, 08:41:43 PM »
Hey guys, I just recently became a handiholic when I got a survivor in .308 a month ago. Now I'm hooked! As much as I love to shoot the .308 it can really get in your pocket when doing a lot of target shooting ,so i am looking for something in .223. My questions are which barrel will be more accurate the bull or the fluted? And if I get the bull barrel made for the survivor will i still have to have it fitted by H&R?

Thanks!

Welcome to the wonderful world of Handi's and GBO's forums.
Maybe you should get in to reloading, nearly as much fun as shooting.
I have a 223 bull that has good grouping, Never seen a fluted barrel,
So don't know about them. Good Luck.

 Marv.

Welcome aboard! ;) The .223 is available in 22" and 24" bull, as well as the 24" fluted bull barrel, they're all very accurate from owner reports, the 22" would be the best choice if you like how the .308 handles and carries with the light Survivor stock, the longer barrels would likely suit you better with a heavier stock. H&R will only sell barrels that they fit to your frame, see their accessory barrel fitting page for instructions. Be sure to spend some time in the FAQs and Help sticky here, lots of good info in there.

Thanks yall answered my questions. Datil...I would like to start reloading but I'm in college right now so I don't have much time. I have a friend that shoots M1 garands in NRA matches, he has been reloading for a while now so I am going to get him to teach me how when i get time. I know that it will vary between every gun and every person, but generally speaking how much tighter do groups get when reloading as compared to using factory ammo.

Moss88hunter, I can not tell you which is better reloads or factory,
I have some rifles that have never had a factory round in them.
I have Not bought factory rounds in a long time,
