One way I can look at it is,
I drive truck and have done so for years and to make a long story short and not get off topic on a whole other story is.
To a point freight pays about the same as it did say 10 years ago in a lot of cases it even pays less than it did.
Rather than a fix to the problem we have fuel surcharges with still low freight rates but this still drives the cost up.
with 3.60 a gallon for diesel fuel and more in other areas this all adds up to more on your end.
Milk ,grocery items, you name it.are all gone up do to higher price for the load to get from point a to point b .
remember that if you bought it (a truck brought it)
then like most it goes to a warehouse than trucked to the smaller delivery points.like walmart they somewhat get a better deal as the whole load goes to one place but they move stuff from warehouse to store but this still cost. the same goes for the small outfit that sells bullets in that if they took a whole truck load at a time it would be somewhat cheaper then some just add more to this and try to make more.from what I have noticed in the industry ( I may be wrong ) is that say speer, hornady, etc can produce so many bullets
at a time faster and cheaper than the small elcheapo bullet guy,the point b,c,d etc people that get these mark them up.
so say midway buys from a sales rep and midsouth buys right from speer they would get a better deal in what i have seen.
I can buy apples at the point a for $15.00 for a #40 box or case.this is like .38 a pound
If you go to the store and buy these at $1.00 a pound look at the mark up.So the #40 case cost $40.00
Just to also show it's not the truck getting rich= I can take these from michigan to ohio for $1000.00 for me & truck
At 24 pallets with 40 cases per pallet=960 cases
960 cases at 15.00 =14400.00
960 cases at 40.00=38400.00
subtract my $1000.00 from 38400.00=37400.00 then subtract 14400.00=23000.00 mark up on that load that save a lot ,walmart
would make.
the stores love to lead you to belive that the trucking has put the big increase in your items cost,It's not ,it is them with the big mark up and blaming the truckers.they just keep raising the price to keep this big profit as they are not going to loose any money, they know you will continue to buy.
