Survivor stock design ...Opinions !
« on: January 18, 2008, 03:59:30 AM »
I like the concept. The design unfortunately must have been made for a guy who has very small hands
or a women size grip. The knuckle of my thumb keeps getting pinched. Is there a mod that can make this
more workable or do I just put a Lam . stock on it and sell the other

Foam pipe wrap(or mattress pad) and 100 MPH duct tape. Same thing the Marine snipers have used for years. Works great and "ya can tweak it to your liken." JMHO - F50 ;)
PS. Ya can't go wrong with a Stinger from Gunstocks Inc. a graybeard sponsor.

OK. But that nust be an answer to a different question than I posed. If the opening is too small
why would I choose to do what you say and make it substantially smaller? Are you sure you understand the problem ?

My BAD! Usually the problem is the other way as the Survivor stock is very open. You must have very large hands (no offense). You could go to an Ultra by Choate it is even more open. Same stock that comes on the Ultra Varmint Fluted. Sorry I misunderstood. -  F50

I have a .308 Survivor, and yes the stocks dimensions are on the small side including the trigger-grip.  I'd only keep the Survivor stock for precisely that reason, that a survival kit and extra rounds are stuffed in it.  Otherwise the Choate NEF Varmint stock and forearm are muuuccccch nicer!  And fit better.

However, I wish the store-arm was larger (longer and wider), but also that the stock was wider (thicker) with a better-designed butt pad/recoil pad, that opened and closed easier.  Still, one makes-do .....

I have actually used my Survivor buttstock with my hand gripping in front of the thumb hole and wrapping my thumb over the top. It's a lot quicker to eject a shell this way as your thumb will be right there. Just a suggestion.
But if you don't need the storage space, then the Choate Varmint would probably fit your hands perfect.
