You can't really go wrong in my book.  The original has the potential for a better trigger, and the G2 is much easier to open, and you don't have to open it to re-cock the hammer.  I have, use and like both.

Personally, I go with the Contenders.  I have not held a G2 and it may be just fine.

I never got excited by the Encores, but I am rather heavily invested in Contenders and they do the job.

I have three G2s with factory triggers that all are clean, 2.5-3 pound pull and they break like glass.  I know some of the early ones were crunchy, but none of mine.

Hands down the G2. Yes, You will have to do a trigger job if you do target shooting. It is safer, g2 will pass the drop test which the contender will not pass. You do not have to open and close the barrel if you let down the hammer to re clock the hammer. G2 will open easier. The G2 frame is 40% stronger. Stock or grips are not interchangeable because  the angle is different. You will not hit your fingers with heavy hitters as much. Yes, I have both contender frames and G2's. I wish I could change all to G2"s. Everyone has personal opinions this is mine. There will be others that like the Contender frame. That is OK. It is good that you have choices. Best of luck. You will enjoy the Contender which every frame you chose.

where did you come up with those numbers?

TC can't say the G2 will handle more than an old frame. possibly because of legal reasons ???....but they didn't put those gussets on the frame sides just for looks ;)

"The G2 frame is 40% stronger." To be honest I don't remember where it came from. I did hear it along the way some place. Sorry, for not to give you a better answer.

I've owned a truck load of frames since 68/69 from all vintages, but I only recommend the easy open originals when asked.   Will never own a G2 myself, but that's just personal choice.

Triggers comes down to who you have do the trigger jobs on them.   Only one TC mechanic ever touches my TC's anymore... he does it right, he does them safe and he does them to my specs.

Not needing to open/close to re-cock is a G2 selling point used by TC, but you DO NOT have to open/close the EO frames to re-cock them either folks.

One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus
