locking lugs
« on: June 30, 2003, 04:41:39 PM »
I have a 5 digit serial numbered Contender. I originally bought it with the 44 mag Hot Shot barrel and a couple others. These all came with a one piece locking lug.

I recently bought a 357 Hot Shot barrel this one has a 2 piece locking lug or its cracked, anyway it won't work the hammer won's drop far enough to hit the firing pin.

Any suggestions. I am at a loss as to what to do with it.

Sam

The two piece lugs are newer. It sounds like you need different lugs though. I have never had to change any but have heard that there are different sizes. I would call TC and tell them what you have. They should send you the ones you need. Their easy to replace, just push them in a little to take the preasure off and knock out the pin holding them in.  KN

I appreciate all the information. I will give TC a call. The lugs are helt in different in the two barrels. One has the pins on the side the other has a screw coming up from the bottom. -- Sam

split vs solid

I called TC and they tell me that if the gun came with solid lugs you can't use barrel's with the split lugs. The gun has to be sent in with both barrel's and the EZ Open conversion kit has to be installed. Time frame is 3-5 weeks and cost is $55.00 This is what I will do.

Thanks Sam

Hmmm.........maybe true for 5 digit serial #, I don't know.  Mine is pre-easy open serial number 109xxx and half my barrels are split locking lug and the other half are solid locking lug.  All work just fine.  I've never had a hot shot barrel though.

If it were mine, I would leave it alone and get another frame!  Worth more to leave alone than to pay money to loose value!

Just my $.02  (or less)
