Encore/Contender scope eye relief question...
« on: January 20, 2008, 04:07:56 AM »
Is the eye relief going to be a problem when mounting scopes on the Encore and Contender considering the short actions. I am getting ready to mount a scope on one each and wondered if I should buy the extended rings. I plan on using the dual dovetail base config. I have used the extended rings before when eye relief was a problem but usually if was to get the scope closer not further away (bolt action rifles).
Primarily, I have always used iron sights but now am going to cross over into scopes for a few of my T/C frames. Three of my frames are shotgun setups and one a rifled sighted carbine. Need a few with scopes.  ;D

Good question Encore 58
I put together a contender carbine in 375 jdj this fall and feel that the scope should be moved forward but it can't with the standard rings and base. In relation to my bolt action rifles the scope is father to the rear and closer to my big head than I like. I used this setup this fall and I like it expect for this problem, hope we can get some feed back from others here about this.

Most my Tenders and Encores are pistols. The few rifle combos I have the fit of the base and standard rings work well for me. I do have an encore rifle in 280Rem. that is used primarily for deer hunting. On this particular rifle I have shortened the L.O.P. because I know I will have on heavy close when shooting.

I have a Contender with a 3X9X40 Leupold in std. rings bases. Works fine for me.

I don't have any real recoilers in my carbines, so the standard setup has worked fine for me as well.

this is the reason i went to the weaver base; i'm able to mount my scope farther forward with it than with any other mount.

On my Contender carbines I use the standard Leupold DD base with Leupold scopes without any eye relief problems.  I had a Leupold scope on an Encore with Leupold a DD base and I had to use extension rings on it.  I bought a Burris DD carbine base one time and could get the proper eye relief with it.

All of mine are standard Leuy bases and rings, 22-250, 25-06, 280, 338WM, and ML. Have not had a problem yet.

I just ordered a $140.00 worth of rings and bases for several rifles (two for TC barrels). Glad to hear it won't be an issue. I ordered the TC setups in dual dovetail Leupold with Leupold rings.

I ordered Leupold bases for a Contender and Encore and Leupold Low rings. Plan to put a 2x7 3200 Elite (Bushnell) scope on the Encore. I have a feeling it will work pretty good with that scope. I think it has a 32mm objective and it is only approx. 9" long. It's for a 357 Max TC custom rifle barrel.
Still looking for a scope for the Contender. Probably a Leupold FX-I  2-7X 28mm Matte Rimfire (Fine Duplex) or Sightron 4X, or possible another 2x7 Elite 3200. It is for a 17HMR rifle barrel. Wondered if the Leupold rimfire would be a good choice for a 17HMR rimfire???? Or is it too flat a shooter.
