Bought a used 1187 yesterday, how did I do?
« on: January 20, 2008, 07:52:45 AM »
Went into a gun shop yesterday, looking for a project gun. Instead, I found a Remington 1187 Premier 12 gauge. Didn't look like it was used much, a couple of light scratches on the offside of the stock, and one slight mark on the receiver, looked basically brand new. The gun has walnut furniture finished in high gloss and hand checkering, and the shiny gloss blue finish on the metal. All 3 choke tubes, the wrench, and the original owners manual also. Then the guy tells me a second barrel is included also, a smoothbore slug barrel in matte finish, not a mark on that barrel either. So I figuered it was a no brainer and grabbed it. I took it home, stripped it all down last night and cleaned it, and it looks about as close to a brand new gun as you can get, but did need a thorough cleaning. Gas port/action/inside of forend area wasn't to bad, indicating to me it wasn't fired much. I paid $350, how did I do?  I thought it was a good buy, but am not up much on prices of semi-auto's lately.

Like you said, that was a no-brainer.  Around here those shotguns go for twice that.  You did very well.

Thanks for the input guys. I had the gut feeling that the price was more in line for a decent pumpgun with 2 barrels, so I figuered I should jump on it. Still can't figure why it sold so cheap, the only thing I can think of, was that the guy thought he had a problem with the gun, and wanted to dump it. The reason I say this, is because when I cleaned it, the gas ports on the slug barrel were plugged solid, and I mean plugged solid, I had to really push hard to get the crap out, and it was both ports, so there was no way the gun was ejecting and cycling another round with the slug barrel. Thanks again.
