I would like to get some better sights for my sbh 44 mag. Does anyone know where I may be able to find some that use a thinner front sight so the target isn't covered up at 50 yards?
Also does anyone know if there are scope bases available in case I ever decide to try a red dot or other type of scope?

Texgun,
I can't speak to the front sight, but you can get a superior rear sight from Bowen.  http://www.bowenclassicarms.com/shop/  I have a Ruger Bisley that I had Cylinder and Slide mill down and make a dovetail post type front sight for, it was so much better than factory I could hardly believe it, but it was not inexpensive.  Cylinder and Slide did some superb accuracy work on my Bisley also.  With a good load, it's a one hole shooter at 25yds.

I believe there are several companies that offer some no-drill options for your scope mounting possiblities, B-Square comes to mind.  They make some mounts that provide for very versatile mounting with most any type of optical sight desired.  I have no experience with these particular products, only knowledge that they are avaialble.  Here's the website http://www.b-square.com/

best sights Ive found are a bowen rear and a thinned post front. Sent it to Dave Clemments and have him put one of his new post front sights on it and have him thin it to .10 Ive got this setup on a couple guns and it works great.

I put a www.oneraggedhole.com rear peep type sight on my RBH. That in combo with a thin front sight would kick arse!! FWIW...if you haven't given peep sights a try on your handguns, your missing out IMHO.

I do agree that at longer ranges finer sights are needed.  But I would just like to point out that the sight should be adjusted and held just UNDER the target (or game).  This way, no sight will cover up the target.

Texgun:  a bunch of years ago when I shot silhouette, and then hunted, with a Super Blackhawk I encountered the same problem you did and recently experienced it again with a rifle shooting at a small target at 100 yds.  I had forgotten that all I did back then was to raise my rear sight enough to take a 6:00 (six o'clock) hold on the target so that point of impact was on the X ring.

Since I knew where my point of impact was, all I did was to use Kentucky windage and I never missed.  In fact, using that technique I had a better sight picture than trying for a dead on hold.  Just my 2 centavos worth, but I hope this helps.  Mikey.
