We are all talking about which caliber/bullets/velocity etc. for deers.

The main thing is a good shot!!!!!!

If you shoot a .30/150 gr. SP (which don`t open up) at 100 yds at 900 fps - you will get a hole through both shoulders.
Because of low velocity - you will not get any meatdamage.
Bloodspoors are also bad  :( so you maybe have to follow 200 yds tracks   :(

With a 45-70 hardcast - you don`t need to follow the tracks more than 70 yds.

My favourite calibers is: 375 JDJ in TC and 454 and 45 LC in a revolver.

And then  :D: I`m sure that a lot of you have other opinions ;)

Not in Illinois. There are published rules we must go by when selecting a caliber to hunt whitetail deer with.

Steve:  I think all that has changed within the past few days and believe Illinois has now developed the Blaygobama Ruling - shoot what the heck ever you want as long as you pay for it first.....................

Sorry, just had to do that but you know that since we are both from the two most corrupt states in the Union we have to take it as a joke.  Just like the time 4 yrs ago when upstate ny was hit by that ice storm right at the end of whitetail season - DEC extended the season for a week, but only if the deer was as big in the butt as hillary klinton....................hahahahahahaha.  That's a big one, too....................

"Blaygobama Ruling", I like that, Mikey. HEHEHE When they arrested Blagojevich I though I saw the light at the end of the tunnel? Guess it was just the twinkling in my own eye. After he's done and gone there's be a worse crook to take his place?

 ;D ;D ;D

They are quite relaxed on the furbearers such as Coyotes while on Private Property. Any caliber rifle or handgun can be used with road kill deer being a legal bait and the use of night vision binoc's or even a night vision scope being legal during the duration of the Red/Gray fox season which allows for two & a half months of 24hr hunting.
Please Send $4,500 for my night vision scope. ;D

I lived and deer hunted in IL from 2000-2006 and used at different times, a 357 Mag., 357 Max., 300 Whisper, and 44 Mag. out of my 10" TC Contender to take deer.

Loaded 300 Whisper ammo was available from CNC Cartridge in Macedonia and I carried a printout of their online catalog to show any CO that wanted evidence, that it met the regs.  Used it to take one deer and didn't care for it.

My favorite was the 357 Maximum.  Can't go wrong with a 44 Mag either.
