Redo 10-22 questions.
« on: January 22, 2008, 02:14:32 AM »
Howdy,

My current project is to upgrade my 22 rimfire, it is a Ruger 10-22.

Currently I have replace the barrel and stock.  The barrel is a short aluminum fluted from Tactical Solutions, and the stock is a thumbhole laminated type.  I have also fitted stock with sling studs and have Claw sling and Harris bypod.

On order is a Tony Kid 2 stage trigger, Kid bolt buffer and receiver pin kit and a socket head takedown screw.

My questions is what else is needed?  I will likely order an extended bolt handle, either a Volquartsen or a Power Custom.  I have not addressed the bolt or extractor, but they seem to function very well.

This will be used for punching paper, knocking down silly-wet iron, and tree rats.

Thanks for any suggestions or comments.

Bolt buffer? Extended mag release? Modify bolt hold-open to close by simply pulling back a bit on charging handle ( or buying replacing item that does the same. How does it shoot? Maybe "blueprint" bolt. There's a ton of stuff stuff out there, the sky's the limit!

1+ on the Bolt buffer. I put one in mine and I can even hear the difference.

The bolt buffer is on order from KID.  As well the extended mag release is included in the new trigger as is the bolt release feature you speak of.

How does one blue print the bolt?

Thanks,

"How does one blue print the bolt?"

First I have heard of it on a 10/22, on a bolt action rifle it would mean having a gunsmith take the barrel off and true the receiver so it is straight and "true". I assume on a 10/22 a gunsmith would be able to true the bolt face so it would  mate up flat with the barrel.

I think that's what he was meaning?!

A good trigger and barrel is a good start. The bolt buffer is great also, I did the same hing you are doing a couple of years ago. Check out rimfirecentral.com they have a million different things you can do to customize your 10-22 and most if not all you can do yourself.

Here's my reworked 10-22, too many parts to list, jewelled bolt, cut the forend down and reworked the butt to accept a mini 14 type rubber pad (upside down). The stock didn't feel right so I reworked the thumbhole also. Bedded the barrel and pillar bedded the reciever.

I had a great time doing this, enjoy yourself and when you're done you will have something to be proud of.

Oh yeah here's how it shoots. Five shot group at fifty yards with remington thunderbolts. Probably do way better if I wasn't too cheap to shoot match ammo.
