Fred Thompson just quit the presidential race. I'm glad he entered it because he had a constructive effect on the candidate vetting process.

I sure would have appreciated a more concerted effort.  He never came across like he really wanted the office.  The most spirited performance was the SC debate.  It's too bad it didn't work out.

Not only did he have a constructive influence, he may yet have more.  His campaign people have been tossing the idea around of a possible VP position in the upcoming election.  If either McCain or Romney get the election and Fred is the VP running mate, he may be able to water down some of their liberal policies and agenda.  It also would be some support in the White House for 2nd Amendment rights.  Only time will tell now.
