Rem 700 VS SF II value??
« on: January 22, 2008, 11:01:17 AM »
I have come across a Remington 700 VS SF II without a mark on it that I have been seriously considering bringing home.  I have been told that loads have already been worked up for it, and that it shoots "one ragged hole at 100 yards".  It comes with a Leupold VXIII 6.5-20X50 scope with the varmint recticle.  Asking price is $1300 for the setup.  Does this seem reasonable?  Thanks.

The scope alone is a 7 - $800.00 model, the rifle can be had for about a grand out the door New, assuming it is in as good condition as you say, that's not a bad deal. How many rounds have been fired thru it? The outer finish can look great but if the barrel isn't up to snuff.......

Does he have any recent targets showing tight/consistent groups? That would be all the proof ya need.

Personally I'd see if the guy would sell the scope and rifle seperately as I'm not a fan of paying Leupolds outrageous prices. Save $$ and get a scope from a maker you're familiar with or use one you may already have, just a suggestion. He'd make more $$ parting it out anyways, I know I have in the past :)

By the way, what caliber is it?

**Leupold fans, calm down, I can hear you cussing @ me  :D

Thank you for the reply.  It is chambered in a 22-250.

Have you made a decision?

Oddly enough that's the caliber I want a VS SF II in but the SPS Varmint purchase I just made put that on the back burner. I shot a VS SF II in .22-250 and wow. It's a baby Sendero, that says it all(assuming you like Senderos, I love them).

Let us know what you decide on and if you do get it, post up a review so I can drool  :D

Another thing to think about..

I mentioned that you might want to save $$ and see if he'd be willing to sell that scope seperately. On the other hand, if it's making ragged holes in it's current configuration, you may want to buy it "as is". Popping another scope on there may not yield the same results.

Ahhh life aint easy being a hunter/shooter!  ;D

If you combine the used price of the rifle(about $750.00) and the used price of the scope($550 - 600.00), you're looking at $1,300.00 so he's definitely not ripping anyone off.

Noone else has chimed in, do I have an odor?  :P

Thanks again for the replies.  I about had it bought a couple weeks ago, but my better half decided that the cash in my pocket needed to go elsewhere.  So.....I had to start the cash collecting all over again.  Lucky for me, I had a litter of German Shorthair puppies that needed to find new homes.  As of thismornining I have 3 puppies left and 5 people who want them.  If all goes according to plan (my plan that is) I should be able to give you a report soon.
