My Win Mod 69-A is almost as accurate as my Mod 52 custom sporter:

In 1942 I was walking past a store and saw a beautiful little Winchester M62 pump .22, that's the one with the hammer.  My Dad worked only about a block away so I ran and got him.  I think the price was about $15 and my Dad talked him into throwing in some ammo.  This was during WW2 and ammo was hard to come by.
I still have it and it still shoots great.  M62s are now collector guns and bring $1000 or more in good shape.  Course in 1942 a hamburger was a nickel, a movie was a dime, gas was 20 cents(sometimes less) so $15 was alot.

I have four that have a lifetime spot in my gun safe.
Two of them are original 1873 Winchesters.
One is a 24" oct barrel that says 22 short but will shoot longs.
The other is a 28" oct barrel that is stamped 22 long.
These were made in 1887 and 1891 and they both shoot about the same, 3/4" at 50 and 1.5" to 2" at 100.
Mostly because of my eyes and the old sights.
The third is a Marlin model 39 first year production three didgit serial with an s prefix for deluxe model made in 1922 that belonged to my father and after more than 40 years I found it in the state of PA and was able to get it back.
It will still cut one ragged hole at 50 on open sights.
The last one is the real shooter of the bunch.
It is an old REVELATION sold by WESTERN AUTO stores back in the 60s.
It ain't pretty but with good eyes (EYE GLASSES) my hunting buddy can put 10 under a quarter at 100.
With my eyes and open sights I am lucky to stay under 2" for five at 100, 50 yds is a different story.
I can cut 5 or 6 pretty regularly.
I do have a Ruger stock 10-22 that is a shooter but it don't count as it has a scope on it.
Not fair to the other guns!   ;D :D
Don't shoot any of them much any more.
That might just change next summer!  ::)

I have an old Marlin bolt action.  I think it is a model 81.  I traded an old set of gold clubs for it about 50 years ago.  The stock was pretty beat up and i refinished it.  Those were the days raising a family and I didn't have a lot to spend.  That baby will really shoot.  I had a friend who was into local target competition with a special target rifle.  It used to upset him that even though he outshot me with the old Marlin there was very little difference in the score.  I might have to dig this one out and go shooting with it.  I usually take my Anschutz Model 54.

It's hard to beat a .22 for fun and practice!  :)

I can not believe it. Nobody mentioned the Winchester Model 52? This has to be the best shooting old .22 rifle of all time. I got mine in 1959 and became a Distinguished Rifleman with it, and  I wish I still had it.

I have never shot a 22 that would equal a Winchester Model 67 single shot.
High Standard "Sport King" would have to be a close second.

About a year ago I bought 3 guns for $100 and sold the old rusty Arisaka for $75.  Other 2 included a Mossberg 42M(b) 22 Target rifle complete with Changable front sight posts, detachable sling swivels, Mossberg Microclick peep sight and extra magazine in the butt stock.  Dirty and used but not abused.  John Taffin just did an artical on one he just got.  The other was a Mont. Wards model 30A single shot.  Not to bad for $25 total cash outlay. ;D  DP

Not sure if this qualifies but I have a 541t that I bought new 20 years ago, and it will shoot!   I have won a few local BR matches with it, and it will shoot inside a half inch at 50 yards, with wolf target.  It will shoot around 7/8 with high velocity Remington hollow points.    This is the one with only one action screw, but it did come with the adjustable trigger.  Why some say you can’t get it below 2 pounds I don’t know as I have mine set at just a few ouches, and no I can slam it on the floor and it won’t fire.  Least wise about as hard as I would care too.   I won’t bust a stock just to prove that the sear will hold.  My TC carbine shoots almost as well, with wolf, but that’s new..….

My Dad traded a colt 38 Sp for a new Marlin 39A in Farmington N.M. in 1957
carried in the pickup every day, don't know how many jack rabbits and coyotes
that gun has killed. We (i was 10) didn't have any idea of trying different ammo.
we bought what they had at the grocery or feed store. about once a year we would open the lever an pour kerosene (same as coaloil) through it, never was taken down. Still ties ever bundle, and will hit what you can show it.
I gave it to my 35 year old son last week, after of course explaining how to care for it.

Dad had a Savage bolt action, the model was 4C I think. It had a weaver 4X as well as open sights. We used to shoot bottle caps at 100 yards and aspirin tablets @ 50yds. with that gun. When my older brother moved away in the 70's he took it with him. I'm not sure if the thieves got that one or not when they stole most of his guns. I have to say that was the best rimfire I ever shot.

Back in the 1960s, I bought a Marlin model 99 M1 22LR, put a Bushnell 3X8 Banner scope on it and used it for squirrel hunting.  Whenever I spotted a squirrel and it spotted me, I could rely on it to eventually peek over a limb to look at me and that is when I used one round between the eyes to drop him.  Deadly little rifle.  Still have it and except for an occassional stove piping problem I do still enjoy the accuracy of this 22 rifle when I take it to the range.

Another favorite 22 I acquired about 2 years ago is a BSA model 12 martini in 22LR.  Bull barrel and one heck of a nice trigger with parker-hale globe front sight and adjustable aperture rear sight.  For an about 80 year old rifle, it is very accurate.  Anyone I have let shoot it at the range I frequent, usually goes wow after putting a few rounds downrange with it.  I had a lot of fun restoring the rifle.  I'm pretty sure the rifle had once been owned by some shooting club in York England and the stock had been butchered for kids to shoot.  The rifle had no firing pin or its spring.  I forget which, but I made a firing pin from a broken drill bit or a broken mauser firing pin.  I found a spring that would function properly after some minor shaping at my local Ace hardware store.

i don't know how old this rifle is, probably not too old.  my buddy saw the stock sticking out of a dumpster and pulled out a beaten up bolt action .22 that was rusted all to heck.  he brought it to me, and i called the police.  used to they would run serial #"s over the phone but now they want to come to the house.  the police said it wasn't reported stolen, but was disposed of incorrectly.  they said it was mine if i wanted it.  2 months later i called them out again, and still was not reported stolen.  so i cleaned it up inside and out and shot it.  although i have never once shot paper with it, i have killed hundreds of prairie dogs with it now, as well as turkeys, a badger, i don't know how many rabbits, coons....  the list goes on.  it's a marlin 881. it shoots minute of prairie dog out to 100 yards with remington golden bullets. good little gun, and always with me on the wheatfield fencerows outside of hunting season.

The Winchester Model 72 (Top) was a good friend of mines grandfathers, he's not much into guns and wanted me to have it. With its factory peep sight it's a tack driver and very enjoyable to spend a day with. The model 61 below it is also very accurate but that's cheating with a scope ;) The 9422M and 9422 Trapper are just a joy to shoot and handle but are not as accurate as the 72. I just got a 1982 Marlin 39A and hope it can shoot tight little groups.
I just love the older .22's

No one has mentioned my sweetheart, the only .22 rifle I own, a Remington 513S with Weaver K4 W scope.  I bought the rifle as a teenager from a local gunsmith in the 1960s.  He said, "If you ever sell this rifle, don't take less than $100 for it."  ;D  Well, I expect it has a market value considerably higher now and I have no intention of selling it anyway.

It has a checkered, steel buttplate, 5-shot clip, and 26" barrel.  The Weaver K4 is the latest in a variety of scope to be on the rifle.  On a calm day it will shoot under 2" at 100 yards with just about any .22 LR ammo.  Finally, although it is about 2" longer overall, it very nearly duplicates the weight, dimensions, and handling characteristics of my centerfire trio of Remington 700 Classics in .223 Rem., 6.5X55, and .35 Whelen.

In 1965, while serving with the Army in Germany, I used to frequent the post (Kaserne) rod & gun club. I decided I wanted to get a .22 to take home with me. The autos available were the Rem Nylon 66, Colt stagecoach and the new model out, Ruger's 10/22. After a careful consideration, I decided upon the 10/22, and am pleased that I did. It has a short serial number...6XXX. I have had it ever since, and although many more rimfires have passed through my hands and many (accurate only) have stayed, I still consider it an outstanding piece. It has outshot some pretty fancy rifles of other makes. It out shoots any newer 10/22 that I have seen/owned, even one that I gave the full "tricked out" treatment. I do understand that the very early 10/22 barrels were built for Ruger by custom barrel makers.
I enjoy my many .22s. My Marlins are great, love my CZ and NEFs and my little Anschutz "woodchucker" is a handy truck gun with it's extended stock. Although my CZ or Marlin 880SQ will shoot right alongside and sometimes beat it, this little Ruger is a "keeper". I have given my grand kids about 3 guns apeice..but one of them will have to wait for my will to get this one.
I have the original walnut carbine stock for it, plus an international stock..but most of the time when in use, it wears a Butler Creek, flash painted by me.
   Below...my baby..with woodchuck and shooting stick I made...it sports a 1960s Redfield, 3/4"... 4X scope.

Early Mossberg 22LR Model 44a 26"heavy Barrel,S100 Micro Sights, factory adj trigger,D/Ted for scope side mount, have M4D but like the micro sights better, shoots 1/4 inch @100yds using Lapua Polar Biathlon 40gr,for some reason it shoots better with a slightly fouled barrel,This rifle is not the US version and does not have a serial number.Willing to go up against any double deuce on the market today(No Brag,Just Fact).

Remington mod. 12 round barrel.  Looks almost as good as it did new in my grandpa's day.  It's a squirrel's worst nightmare.

Also have a Revelation ss that will shoot all day with any gun I've had up against it.

Mechanic,
The first .22 I shot at five was my father's model 12. He paid a dollar for it during the depression. I would like to find a nice example. They are great .22s.

I bought an entire gun cabinet full of guns just to get this one.  I have wanted one since I was a boy, and have not been able to get one in decent shape.  This one is better than 80%, perhaps closer to 90, and in my book is worth what I paid for the whole lot.
