I swear, I'm not making this up. It's the truth, so help me. When we were kids many many years ago one of
my older brothers had a old funky bolt action Savage 22lr. I don't know the model number, but it had a 10
round clip and a long sandard contour barrel around 22"-24" with a old who knows what 20mm or
so 4X scope. He was so deadly with that rifle it was crazy! We used to go out to the desert for the weekend blasting targets, rabbits, or whatever. We were walking along a wash in a canyon. There
was a small bird way up above us on a hillside 100+ yards away. He said "watch this". "See that
little bird up there on that rock?" POW! It fell over. My friend took off running up the hillside. It
took him a while, but he finally got up there while my brother and I waited down below. He found
the bird. We yelled to him, "Did he get it?" He yelled back, "Yea," he said "in the eye!" He hit that
damn little bird the size of a sparrow in the eye from that distance uphill! He would blow our minds
all the time with that rifle making so many unbeliveable shots over the years. That was one of those
legendary magic rifles that you come across once in your lifetime. I lost touch with my brother over
the years, so I have no idea what happened to that rifle. I'd sure would like to know though. That
Savage could flat shoot!

Gotta give a nod to my Brno Model 1.  It's a bone stock, very early one that I shoot more than any other gun I have except maybe my shotgun!

I picked this TOZ 8M a while back i got to say it the best rabbit rifle i have seen by far they were made around the mid thirties as a all round target and hunting .22LR. Very good shooter with a big bull barrel the only thing that some people turn their nose up at is that it’s a single shot but i say when you have a rifle this good you only need one shot.

She may not look like much but she can do a lot

 Here, here!  ;D

My best friend has one of those odd, old Toz rifles; it looks similar to yours, but has a slightly different style stock - I believe it is a Model 7. It was made in 1936, and will shoot with the best of .22s made today ;) And for such a simple design, it has an excellent trigger, and is very un-characteristically Russian in that respect ;D We found this bugger in a local shop, and I have never seen another anywhere. Looks like you got lucky and snagged one of these obscure wonders as well  ;)

As for me, I have two old Winchesters, a Model 67 and a 68. Both are neat guns and great shooters; the 67 is older, but in considerably nicer shape, and I think it might well be the more accurate of the two. I shoot the 68 most, as it has a nicer set of sights on it, and being that it is a little roughed up, I don't mind knocking it around a bit  ;D ::)

Kind Regards,

~.450 Marlin~

I have an old long barrel Winchester Model 67 single shot, and it is very accurate.

I carry it around as a truck/tractor gun, and I'm surprised how accurate it is with open sights and my "old eyes"...

Never fired it from a bench rest, but with a steady rest over of hood of a truck, or leaning against a tree, it will shoot 1" groups all day long at 50 yards.

I have had this rifle for about 30 years, I believe my father had bought it in the late 60's early 70's, I am unsure of its age.  It is a Revelation made for western auto.  I have shot dime groups at 75 yards and quarter size at 100 yards.

I have an old Stevens Auto that will shoot Long Rifles auto or single shot and longs and shorts single shot only. It has been in my family for 48 years and was bought used. It shoots minute of squirrel head at 75 yards. I have never shot a paper target with it, but it has accounted for many squirrels and a few hogs!

Remington Nylon 66.  One guy mentioned he had one, and one other person said how much he liked his.  Well I've got 8 .22RF rifles in my vault, Anschutz, Remington, Marlin, Savage, Browning, WesternField, and Stevens.  The Anschutz is the most accurate, and the
Remington Pump is the furtherest shooting, the Remington Nylon 66 is the most fun.  I shot it as a teenager, back in the 60s.  Two of my brothers used it during their teen years.  My oldest son undertook to wear it out in his teen years.  My youngest son and his buddy took it out and just had a blast with it almost every evening during his teen years.

Now I have it back, and I shoot it quite a bit just for the heck of it.  Love to shoot Red Squirrels with it.  They get up in Spruce trees and I just start blasting.  I like to see how many times I can hit them before they hit the ground.  And plastic soda bottles at the range.  I like to shoot just below them making them jump into the air, then shoot them while they are air born.  That little gun is so much fun to shoot.

Both of my 22 rifles are Marlins, both over 30 years old. My squirrel rifle is a Marlin/Glenfield Model 25, no finish left on the wood, and lots of cold blue on the steel. It has a Tasco 4x deer scope on it, which I have to sight in because I just put new heavy duty Weaver steel rings on over the winter.

My other Marlin is a Model 782 .22 Magnum which I am about to replace the rings on this summer. It has a Simmons 3x9 deer scope on it that came from a Savage package rifle. It really shoots, and looks great as well.

I used to shoot Savage-Anshutz .22's in competiton many many years ago, and these old Marlins come as close as I need to that kind of accuracy for way way less money.

Just snagged a Mossberg 146b t handle from the local pawn shop with all the correct sights and a scope for 150 first 4 rounds in the bottom of a pop can at 50 yds. It is now by the window that over looks the hen house.

My first experience as a teenager was with my grandfather's Remington 552 Speedmaster. The first 22 I owned was a Ruger 1022. Now I have a Nylon 66 That reminds me of the 552. It just has the same feel, although they are really nothing alike. I love 22's, and really love Remingtons. There is just something about the smell of 22's being fired that instantly takes me back to my grandfather's place in the country, and the great times we had with the Speedmaster. My most recent acquisition is a neat little bolt action, a Romanian M1969 trainer.

I have an a 512X sportsmaster I bought in 73, brandnew at a hardware store in Malvern Arkansas. I have no idea how many rabbits, squirrels, and blackbirds I have shot with that rifle, not to mention rocks, twigs, empty shotgun shells, etc.  I also have a 10/22 i bought in 79 at the BX at camp pedleton. and just yesterday at a gunshow in chahilis Washington I bought an almost new 552 speedmaster and it is a .1973 ventage rifle. not mark or bit of wear on it.  200 bucks!  i shot it today with federal plated hollow points, it shoots into an inche pretty easy.

I think rifles would shoot better if you could get ammo in the bricks of 10 boxes of 50 neatly packaged so the bullets don't get damaged.  no most ammo is bulk packed or very expensive.

I sure miss the old red boxes of federal Hi power.. always my favorite ammo.

I have an old JC Higgins clone of a Marlin 80 that was given to me because "it just didn't shoot good".  Some rust on the outside, stock is rough, and the gun had apperantly never been cleaned.  I got the bore nice and shiney and thought I would just run a few through it.  It shoots simply awesome with pretty much everything I have fed it.

several years ago I bought an old Stevens from the original owner to teach my step son to shoot. It has to be manually cocked. The barrel is the action. Not only accurate, but not fussie about what you feed. Slower than my 10/22 but will shoot as well or better.

Semperfi;
That old Revelation looks good. Being a "house" brand, I'd suggest it looks a lot like an older Mossberg. Nobody can say those old Mossys couldn't shoot...wish I could find one today.
Pictured below is one of my "oldies". It is a first year of production 10/22, which I bought in Germany as a GI, bought it at a post rod & gun club. If I correctly recall, it was about $55...but can't say for sure if the price included the little C4,  3/4" Weaver .22 scope I bought along with it.
I took it brand new, down to the local range and out shot some pretty fancy single shot German rifles. I have never seen a stock Ruger since that will shoot with it. I understand that the first year or two, Ruger jobbed out their barrels to some custom barrel shops. In any case this first year rifle shoots with the best.
I have stored the original walnut  stock. These days it wears a Butler creek stock which no longer sports the flash colors shown here.

My grandfather had an older pump 22 that had the exposed hammer.  I just found today a winchester mod. 06 22cal pump that takes shorts/longs/long rifles.  I ordered it right away since its a C&R gun its that old.  Now i got the old c&r bug for these youth rifles now too. I been eyeing the older winchesters and remingtons.

My favorite is my 512 P as in peep sight Remington that I bought from my grandmother after my grandfather died. I got 2nd in AA my sr. year of H.S. and 1st in A my Jr. year at the state silhouette matches. I also have a Model 12, a 10/22 I got for my 14th birthday, "several years" ago and recently a Sako Quad, which is the most accurate of the lot.

I like these kind of threads because of all the nostalgia and all of the sweet old rifles that show up.  I didn't realize when I started reading this thread today that I already replied to it 2 years ago.  A lot of replies have been made in the thread since then.  I just a few days ago pulled my Remington 121 pump out of the safe and shot it some in the backyard.  I was surprised how well we shot.  Me actually more than the rifle; I have a lot of trouble with irons these days.  Anyway that rifle is easily capable of one ragged hole at 25 yards with decent ammo.  It's a sweetheart for sure.  I got it for a bargain a lot of years ago because the exterior finish was turning brown and had some pits on the barrel near the pump handle.  Carried by sweaty hands without a proper wipe down after.  But the interior was perfect.  I think that the Remington 121 is one of the all time great rifles.  I really ought to get another one to keep it company.

Number 1. Dads' model 33 Remington, shot mistletoe out of the trees for Christmas money
when I was a kid.
Number 2. Grandfathers model 121 Remington, 1950 date on barrel. Beautiful and accurate.
Number3. Marlin 39a 1951. Haven't had it anywhere but the range but that will change soon.

I was recently given a mossberg 151k by my uncle.  The rear sight blade was missing, but the slot that the screw mounted the blade into makes a perfect rear peep.  A dab of nailpolish on the front post and a good cleaning.  I was amazed at how well this rifle fit me.  it's a large rifle.  It seemes that older 22's were rifles that just happened to be chambered in 22, while now a days 22's seem a little chincy.  just my opinion.  I definately plan on grabbing a few more oldies but goodies.

I had one of those Mausers myself for a while and traded it.  Mine was made in the '30's and was used to train Hitler youth.  They would only allow him to make just so many military weapons, and this was how he got around it.  Train with the 22 then transition to the real thing.

Very good shooting guns.

Those old Mausers  are rare, back in the 80s I decided to try to find a dedicated squirrel rifle.  My son worked for a time for a gun shop which allowed him to take used rifles home to try out.  He brought one of those Mausers and a Winchester model #69 home, and we tried them out.  Neither one would outshoot my old, 'first year' Ruger 10/22 shown above..so I sent them both back.  As I recall the Mauser had a Looong trigger pull..not heavy, but long..
I could have gotten either one for about $60 ...I now kick myself quite often for passing them up !  Hindsight is 20/20 ! :D

CZ made 98 Mauser air rifle trainers too.
I am lucky enough to have one of them shoots lead balls and functions very closely to the real rifle.

Yep, the one I had was made in the late 30's before Mauser moved the factory in Germany.  Had someone not cut the forestock trying to "sporterize" it, it would have been worth close to a thousand.  As it was, I traded it for a rolling block.
